Nice shot Dan. Would have loved to have seen her depart from Ringway in her working years! ;-)

Dan - good to see you back in harness again. We haven't seen the pair of you together for a while. BTW, the time of day isn't right for a Manchester to New York. We always had time for a leisurely, full breakfast in the Grand Hotel before we left (Black Pudding was their speciality), so the flight couldn't have left until about midday. Couldn't leave Manchester without a decent fry-up, lad

You're not too far off there, Garry! Occasionally there was no BP available or latecomers were told it had run out. That would always put the crew in a grumpy mood - difficult to service a hangover without a belly full of fried food! :drinkers:

Ian
we need to start a thread of best and worst places to have breakfast in the proximity of airports
My two favoirte would be - The old Gatwick staff resturant at the Beehive circa 1974 usually at 3 am
Full Irish Breakfast at The Great Southern Hotel at Dublin (EIDW)
Worst The old "Greasy spoon at the bottom of the old tower at Luton
Any Waffle House at 0230

Re: G-ASGK enroute EGCC-KJFK
Pilots used to have a sad pastime on East Coast nightstops. They would set themselves a challenge to find the cheapest cooked breakfast in town. The cabin crew never seemed to share the same enthusiasm for it, for some reason  But I remember that they all decided that the cheapest was a sort of charity soup kitchen in Boston. I can't recall the name of it, but it was run by a brotherhood of Monks who served breakfast at cost price to street dwellers and other dispossessed souls. Pilots have no shame and were quite proud of the fact that they had squeezed on to benches to get two eggs, bacon and home fries for $1.99. My favourite was cornbeef hash with two poached eggs in the Broadway Diner on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. And because it was too expensive for them, you didn't have to listen to pilots droning on about bidlines and ex-wives. Mmmm, I can feel a little JFK shopping trip coming on at the thought of it :tab:

p.s. Just remembered that in the 70s we used a coffee shop called Ansons near Grand Central Station in New York. It was always full of crew in the mornings and the coffee they served was very very strong and after two or three cups most of us would experience a stirring of the bowels
The direct line back to the hotel, rather than going round the block was to cut diagonally through a department store called Korvettes. The Korvette Dash became the standard expression for the race back to the hotel
