North East Trident
Hello to all ,this is my first post on this site, i refer to Dave Maltby`s excellent Tridents, i have a problem on my sim with the North East model, on take off all is well to about 2000 ft. then for no apparent reason the engines cut and thats it, the aircraft starts to lose altitude and you know the rest.
The other models work ok i am really pleased with myself when i manage a perfect autoland, I thank Dave Maltby for allowing me the experience of flying this lovely aircraft, however i am puzzled, about the North East version, i have a little knowledge of flt. sim. models, and always assumed, all the aircraft models linked to the aircraft cfg should all work the same.
I would be very grateful to anyone who can explain this problem and better still suggest a solution

Hi Sam,
Sounds like you don't have the overheat limiter on? I can't remember where the switches are (back of the pedestal I think) but in work at the mo so can't check it. ;-)

The top temperature limit switches are on the bottom right of the pedestal if you are using the virtual cockpit. If you are using the 2D cockpit, select the startup panel, and the switches are on there. What I think is happening is that you are getting an overtemperature situation which is causing engine failure. In reality from what I remember of Speys, ( now nearly 40 years out of date I'm afraid) they had a 5 minute temperature limitation after which power HAD to be reduced - the model in fact cuts that time short to about 2 minutes . If you engage the switches, even at high ambient temperatures a fuel limiter keeps the temp below critical limits

Thank you for your prompt reply and suggestions, I usally fly the model without the VC, so i have no idea where the heat limit switches are, and yes as far as I can tell there is only one aircraft cfg for the Trident Two with a seperate folder for the Trident 3.
I have just flown the North East model again and took particular attention to the check list, would you belive the model worked perfect, which leads me to conclude, that owing to the fact this as never been reported by anyone that it was finger trouble on my part, I thought it parculiar that i only had a problem on this model.
Thank you again, I promise to buck up ! my apologies to Mr Maltby for doubting his aircraft

Re: North East Trident
Sammach..
Another way of keeping out of trouble is not to takeoff on FULL Throttle. Make sure the temp gauges (the 3 on the top row of the engine gauges) stay in the YELLOW. If you're trimmed correctly and have the correct droop/flap selected (2 clicks on F7).. you shouldn't really need the temp limiters but it's handy to know where they are ;-) As an aside.. I never use em.. I always keep to the yellow section and no higher than 3 quarters before throttling back for the climb

Thans a lot Dave for your help, you have given me enough to get my head round for a while, you have restored my faith in Forums, I have in the past been put off by the jargon used, in fact at times I have not got a clue what people are talking about, using PC short hand does not help, you have explained clearly to me, with out over complicating what you think might be the problem, its much appreciated, thank you.
I will go away and try to improve my flying.

What a polite, well-mannered man! How refreshing. Shall we ask him his opinion on Vista and FSX to see if he's genuine?
