Sorry again,
What I meant by my first post was wondering why they didn't start using full blown c-130's, four engines and all, and using them on a more regular basis as well as developing another aircraft to use (the C-2). Just thought it would be great if you needed to move a large amount of troops from a sea based carrier to an airfield on land, or to be paradropped.
All the Best,
James.

Hi James
No worries....I always understood what you meant
it was following comments especially the taking a plan making it smaller and knocking two engines of that was so bizarre.
At least the tests proved it could be done and even if not adopted as standard could remain an option if circumstances called for something like that.

Re: C130 on a Carrier..
The main reasons they stopped it were a) having to rearrange all the aircraft on the flight deck forward of the JBD so they were out of the way and b) no one really knew what to do if the C-130 went downbird on the carrier. Ultimately it just wasn't practical using an aircraft as big as a C-130 on a carrier, it kind of gets in the way!
Be interesting to see how long it'd take to regain the capability if needed, or even if there's a plan in place. I'm guessing someone took some notes last time they did it!

Well at least the ability would be there if they wanted to use it, for example in some form of special circumstance.
Think I might go and see If I can land the CS 130 on the Old Ark Royal, and see just how nerve racking it must be for the pilots.
