19 SQUADRON SPECIAL PAINT SCHEME 2008...

Post by ukmil »

In August 1938, 19 Squadron were the first to be equipped with Spitfires at Duxford and to celebrate this historic occasion 19 Squadron have submitted a paint scheme, which has been approved after months of negotiations, not only for the funding for the paint scheme, but also for the approval to have a Hawk painted in complete camouflage colours.

Next week XX184 will enter the paint shop at RAF Valley as a black trainer and will emerge in approximately three weeks as a fully camouflaged Hawk in the original colours of a Battle of Britain Spitfire as the below

Mike Rondot, aviation artist has been commissioned to paint this very special aeroplane and as you can see below it is in formation with a Spitfire over Dover. There will only 70 prints to celebrate the 70years and to date, 20 have been sold. The intention is to have the prints signed by the surviving three 19Sq Spitfire pilots and the aircrew flying on the 24th May , OC19 being one.

Cool paint DC :)

Is the rear end of the fuel tank missing on the Hawk  Thought you'd have painted the Spit up in olive/khaki to match the painting even though it's the wrong Mk of Spit.

Nice screenie all the same ;-)

I hate to be pedantic but is the pattern on the camouflage is wrong? You also might want to move the 19 a wee bit further down the tail and embolden it a tad, and I think the roundel is the wrong type (see the bottom of this post for a comparison). Still, it looks great and really shows off the Hawk model.

I really do wonder sometimes why you post half finished shots which will always get a response then post to say you've already fixed what's been commented on :@

Back when I had a PC which could do such things, and evenings which weren't full of pizza delivery, I flew with an Il-2 Sturmovik squadron based on 19 Sqn... good times...
