It's a good job I don't fly for your VA! I am having a persistent problem with autoland, in that although the aircraft tracks the ILS very accurately, greens and blues showing etc ( and QNH correctly set) at about 50 feet Radio height, just as it should start the flare, it pitches the nose sharply down, and however quickly the autopilot is disconnected, it has wound on sufficient nose down trim that the situation is irrecoverable

Am I doing something wrong? or is this something that has happened to others , and if so does anyone know the solution please?

Hi Chris

It's not a problem that I have heard from others.
I do autolands regularly for the VA & it's 100% reliable. Even landed one while I was eating my dinner, only going back to the PC to put reverse thrust on & wheel brakes.
If you got green flags & blue lights, you must have auto land engaged properly. Assuming you have full flap & are at the correct VAT speed, all should be well.
Between 60 & 45 feet it is programmed to set rate of descent to -100 ft/min. All that is done through the FS autopilot, which keeps control of descent until after landing. So it shouldn't be anything to do with your yoke/stick. :think:

Do you have any external autopilot hardware?

What airport are you landing at? I'll try mine at the same place.

Another thing to check is the date on your copy of DM_Trident.cab
The last release I put out has a date of 05/10/2006.
Any chance you got your Trident from somewhere else?

Peter and David : thanks to you both. I have had Peter's tutorial from the time the Trident appeared, and AFAIK I am following it . Speeds and flap were correct for weight . It has only started happening since I downloaded the latest version a few months ago . Last night's was at EGGP 27 ( 111.75 ) but I have also had it happen at EGLL

I shall try flying in the 2D cockpit and see if this makes a difference . I am interested in the fact that at 60 feet agl the rate of descent is programmed to change. This is precisely where the noseover occurs. I think I may try deleting fs9.cfg and see if this cures it

If I find a solution I will post it

I used to get a similar with the One-Eleven at about a mile to go on ILS when it would slow down and nose in

Loading a default before the One-Eleven cured that one.

Are you going straight into the Trident?

Garry : ah, there's a point - I always go straight in to the addons. I shall try starting with a default . Thanks for the tip

I've checked the cab, which is indeed the 5.10.2006 update

Chris, can you also check the date on the panel.cfg file in the 'DMFS Shared Files\HS121 Trident Panel VC' folder.
Should be 22/09/2006.
I'd also have a look in the aircraft.cfg file. In the [autopilot] section check if you got 'default_vertical_speed= 1.000'.

There's no need, that I can see, for loading a default aircraft first. I never do anyway.
There's also no need to bring up the 2D panel on my models, you can go straight from VC.

I've done 84 Trident flights for the VA, most with an autoland. Never had one fail.
EGLL is a popular landing spot, so there's no problem there.
It's difficult to think of anything it could be linked to. :dunno:

panel .cfg date correct. Autopilot default vertical speed is 1.000 which appears correct. The file does include , however,

USE_NO_DEFAULT_PITCH=1
USE_NO_DEFAULT_BANK=1
default_pitch_mode=0

and I am not sure what significance these have

One curious feature is that I think I am right in saying ( but am not absolutely sure ) that all these noseovers have been in the dark, and with active weather enabled

Do you fly any other of David's models at night because those lines are present in all of his models and most of Rick's.. a hangover from a previous sim (the dreaded 2000 if memory serves) :think:

Those other autopilot settings are fine. No nasties in that.

After re-reading this thread, I got the impression that it doesn't happen every time. Is that right?
Are you using ASv6.5 ?
I remember once having trouble after I'd enabled some extra settings - 'Wake Turbulence' I think it was.
It was not a Trident, but I was thrown down to the runway after messing with it. Turned it off again after that.
