AI Traffic problems...

Post by Grace Quirrel »

Well the good news is that the new PC (Vista) and FSX are up-and-running and it's excellent. Haven't installed DM's VC-10 yet though (still summoning up the courage in case it doesn't work :doho: ).

The only issue is the AI traffic - there's absolutely nothing! I have installed Ultimate Traffic 2007 however, so perhaps there's a conflict with FSX's own AI???

quite possibly!

If UT2007 is compiled with the old BGL-compiler and not the new FSX-compiler, the default and the UT conflicts, thus displaying none.

Try to rename the default traffic file trafficxxxxxx.bgl to something like ....trafficxxxxx.bgl.bak

And be sure that you actually have your AI slider set up to more than 0% ;-)

Crikey Dan, how do you know this stuff?!

And where on earth do I find the trafficxxxxx.bgl file?

You should find it in the folder..fsx/scenery/world/scenery.

The file will be called (for example) 'traffic030528', but the six numbers may differ. Just rename it (via right click/rename) by adding the word default or original (the word after the numbers is not important) just to get it out the way, in case it conflicts. You can always re-name back later isf you wish to use the default again.

I hope this correct, as I have not got FSX to refer to, but this is the FS9 method and I do not think it has changed.

Well I don't see any of the files you mentioned guys, but there is one called "trafficAircraft.utb". It's the only one with a .utb extension - all the others in that folder are .bgl.

Of course, if I knew how to insert a screenshot, that might help... :-#

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\World\Scenery\trafficAircraft.bgl is the right name sorry.

rename it to e.g. bak_trafficAircraft.bgl.bak

as you see it "removes" the "traffic" prefix, and the "bgl" post-fix. That should effectively take care of it, without removing the possibility to revert again.

A better choice would have been Burkhard Renk's "My Traffic" which will install in FSX which it was specifically written for, or FS9.

BTW Dan...It is only necessary in the case of a BGL file to give it a new extension...I rename mine to "TrafficBlahBlah.BGL.dis". This file will never be loaded and the "Traffic" at the start of the name will be ignored. BGL files will only ever be loaded if the filename ends in .BGL and it would STILL be loaded if you renamed that bgl file to " ORIGINALandPREVIOUSfileCalledTrafficBlahBlah.BGL".

Of course you're right Peter ;-)

I just wanted it out of the way of all my other "traffic--files, hence the double renaming ;-)

No you only need to give it another extension, that's right.

Well yes Dan,

I know the feeling and can sympathise...I've got hundreds of Traffic files and I can see your point about getting it out of the list. I find that my ".dis" stands out in the list and is easily found for re-instating if necessary. At the moment as I gradually install WOA packages I disable each instance of the same airline which is from my PAI files which I always installed as separate files for each airline...Easy to manage by individual disabling :flying:

Sorry chaps, there isn't a file named "trafficAircraft.bgl", but there IS one called "trafficAircraft.utb".

Surely that's the problem? Question, what should I call it in order to load the add-on traffic? :dunno:
