Ask the Experts

Post by sammach »

hello,
Every time I fly Dave malyby`s excellent RAF VC10< I wonder what the small impellors are for for on the wing fairings, I feel sure that the members of this forum will tell me,
All so the Shorts Belfast freighter, I have the Alphasim payware version, its not bad, but I would like to improve on the panel, does any one know if any other models exist of this aircraft, or could you recommend a suitable panel for the Tyne engines.
Lastly, thank you all who gave me advice and help on my Vulcan, I am improving my landings thanks to this forum

The Belfast is a pretty basic rendition and I am working on a new sound package for the Alphasim version, will let you know when it is ready. I agree the panel needs improving too.

Thanks for your prompt reply, when I was at at Brize Norton, ( I am a boring old you know what ) there were the passenger/freight combi`s, Belfast freighters and the good old Britannia`s. I have never been involved in the tanker variant, so thats how they extend and retract hoses.

Thanks allso to Scorpius, concerning the Belfast freighter, I use the Vanguard sound package from Classic British Aircraft sound files, they had the same engines Rolls Royce Tyne Turbo Props., If i ever manage to improve the model from Alphasim i will let you know

Hi Sammach,

Trouble with using the Vanguard sound package is that it has a compressor whine that the Belfast never did have, a more realistic sound is that of the Transall with Tyne engines. As a stopgap, you could use either the Hercules or Lockheed L188 Electra.

As Scorpius says the Vanguard had a unique sound due to the compressere on No 2 and 3

Later on most of the Merchantmen including EP it was removed from 2

Here the difference on this link....if you forward to 8:10 just after that 2 winds up to join 1 already at high idle and nothing special......then 3 winds up with her compresser still fitted and there is no doubt of the types distictive sound.

No matter how many times I watch that.. it still gives me goosebumps

Even on low beta, you can still hear the compressor on engine 3 but it doesn't come into full song until high ground :welldone:

Btw.. we're working toward our next run early June (7th). I'll keep you all posted ;-)
