Hi Chris..

Well, I have DM's VC10's in FSX and had them there for yonks before adding my own thumbnails. Just 3mins ago, I dragged Garry's Superfreighter over and that works too (except the brake sounds but that's neither here nor there). My system is probably not the best example though as it's relatively sparse as far as addon aircraft go but that said.. I've never lost one (other than me losing it in the list) and the lack of a thumbnail has never prevented an aircraft from showing or being used. I don't know if it matters at all but I don't load non-FSX aircraft into the Airplane folder. I made my own 'Aircraft' folder then created an entry in the FSX.cfg to look there. This way.. my 'Full FSX' (laugh.. cause I'm sure not all of them are) aircraft go into Airplanes and my dragged, kicking and screaming FS9 models are kept apart ;-)

I don't doubt you've seen what you describe or you wouldn't have mentioned it but it's never happened to me :)

Me neither Dave. Actually I created a "David Maltby" folder along with a "HJG" folder and several others. Just remember to add the path in the FSX.cfg. Never had any troubles with any installations at all. One shouldn't make it into a scientific problem to install aircraft. It is really pretty simple.... Just start off by looking a bit into the default folders to get the hang of it.....

As David so correctly puts it on his site.... "4. There is no number 4, don't over-complicate it! "

I just love that sentence!

Thanks for all your great comments and help. It's very frustrating, as I still can't see the 10, even after Ben very very kindly sent me the files.

They are in the SimObjects/Airplanes folder but just won't show when I am in FSX and try to sel;ect the aircraft . If it's not the lack of thumbnails, it must be something to do with the path in the FSX.cfg but that's way beyond me so, for now, I'm stuck... :-(

Verify that the panel alias matches the panel title in the "DMFS Shared Files" folder. If FSX finds an aircraft with a missing panel or one with a bad alias it treats it as AI and doesn't show it in the list of available aircraft.

Ben have you made an Aircaft-folder instead of the Airplane folder?

That could explain a wrong path in FSX.cfg

A missing panel (wrong alias) is 9 out of 10 the reason for a no-show in FSX. That, and an install in a wrong folder....

There is really no magic involved, just pure logic. The path's has to match the actual placement. That's all....

No Dan, its all default stuff. I sent it to one of my mates to check out too and he had no problems... its very strange, but must be something silly, I just can't think what.
