VTOL Cessna - a first for me!

Post by garethfs »

Hi folks

Managed to find time for a quick spin in the good old JP earlier. Thought I would drop in to Chivenor as I couldn't recall having visited before (UK2000 scenery) and here is what I found:

Image

All other AI traffic seemed to find, except for this guy who has parked at 50ft, switched off and, presumably, called ATC for the long ladder or fire brigade. I've seen AI floating just off the ground before (I assume due to AFCACD issues) but never anything like this on UK2000!

Is it just a rogue or should I check a few other airfields in the vicinity to see if it's a trend in that part of the world??!!

I reckon this is a result of the infamous 'cliff' syndrome - where the FS scenery has been either flattened or otherwise height adjusted by the add-on airport scenery to make it more accurate.

So the Cessna will be at MS Chivenor elevation, and your Jet Provost is at the height UK2000 reckon it should be.

Do you have 'Traffic' or similar installed? If so that would explain why all AI are not at the same height.

Interesting idea JD except that a couple of other Cessna's pootled out past me on the ground - ie At the same level as me!

I don't have any traffic installed other than some MAIW packages which shouldn't affect Chivenor and the AI that came with UK2000. And default AI too I should add.

It really is just this one plane - at least, it's the only one I've seen thus far!!

Decided to sneak back with the big guns to see if I could catch them at this hovering malarky again and I am pleased to report JD that it looks like you're right - they're all at it down Chivenor way!

Thought I would show them how it should be done but they hover far more perfectly than I ever will!

Back to Wittering - tail between legs!

Should I be checking AFCADS to sort this out? I flew in to Culdrose and number of other airfields in the sector but, for the moment at least, the Hawker Siddeley Cessna Hover team seem to be based soley out of Chiv!

Take a look at Visual Flight forums. "The Lounge" "Problem at Chivenor" Posted by myself on 13th June 2006.

It took a while to sort it out, but the result was good.

Dennis.
