I am not a gamer.....only have FS9 and when I first installed it I thought it was risky leaving disk four in

At this time I knew nobody but asked someone who I knew had FS9 if there was a way of not having the CD in and was pointed to the noCD patch.

Just seemed to me there had to be a better way :dunno:

I am always leary of those "crack" sites myself but I think I found the nocd patches (original 9.0 and version 9.1) on an fs addon site in the utility section. I can't recall the site at the moment but I think I became aware of such a patch because All Nodes had a warning about posting anything regarding nocd patches. Ironic that this post on All Nodes arroused my curiosity to find the thing. Now I look for patches for anything that requires the original CD - I just hate shuffling CD's and risking scratching them. Besides all that, the software will usually load a lot faster if it does'nt have to verify the presence of a CD.

Curiously enough, when once wading through some support topics on the Microsoft site I discovered reference to use of this modification without threats of death. I think it was something along the lines of needing to restore the original FS9.exe before carrying out some kind of fix. So Microsoft certainly do know about it, and seem to recognise it is in common use.

For me the best solution is the no-CD "fix" further modified to use 4GB memory rather than the usual 1GB, which allows you to survive with memory-hungry sceneries without getting the dreaded "out of memory" error. It is complicated to set up, but worthwhile.

Hi John

I think that restoring the original is for the FS.9.1 patch  ...you can only upgrade if you put the proper FS9.exe back in.....then upgrade. You need to remove the noCD patch for 9 anyway as after upgrade you have to use the 9.1 NoCD :)
