Well, it was a gimmicky test pilots' sort of lift off wasn't it? I don't think you would do this sort of thing except to test a performance aspect of the machine, and I don't expect you would do it with passengers

Heh reminds me of when you used to drive off the taxiway on Flight Unlimted 2 and you'd get ATC thanking you for mowing the lawn

That's actually a fairly standard departure procedure for Russian helicopters, if a tad more extreme than usual. Because of the way Russian helos are designed, you need a running departure many times to get safely airborne.

.......... and any Paraffin Palm Tree that doesn't have a great excess of power over its weight. It puts the rotors into 'clean' air and gives transitional lift
