Re: Rail Simulator
Hi Folks
Dave -
LOL
Not my cup of tea either
but take a look at that first video.
Copilot anyone ?
Also 3rd vid.
Nearfield localised data is much better than FSX.
(except tracks, ATM non-varied )

I've never felt so frustrated....... died so frequently/spectacularly/or needlessly....... yet had so much fun, in a long time.

Re: Rail Simulator
I watched the first AND second video Paul and that was quite enough. However.. I agree with the chap showing the demo that the animation was good on the other bod ;-) Unfortunately.. an animated co-pilot doesn't do a great deal for me though from reading viewers comments here, it would be well recieved by a great many!

Hi Folks

Agreed.
Will be good though if interactive with pilot, (yourself)
as per It's Your Plane type implementation.
http://www.itsyourplane.com/
However look at MSTS2 technical content.
Autogen is also handled differently, (better).

Re: Rail Simulator
Might try and download that BVe and see if I can find an el-cheapo MSTS up town tomorrow (I'm thinking 99p as in ShipSim) - I will then give an unbiased opinion.
Having said that, if MSTS is anything like FS (EG you need to put add ons in to get any real value) - I don't know if I can be :fart: looking for the Train? and Gauges folders *again*

Re: Rail Simulator
Standard out of the box trainsim certainly needs an awful lot put into it to bring it upto a decent standard, similar to fs9 really. If you really are serious i suggest having a good old look at this website: http://www.uktrainsim.com/ to find eveything you could possibly want.
I enjoy both flight and train sims and as i said in my previous message i couldn't not be interested in both trains and planes. My dad grew up in Eastleigh with the railway running behind his back garden and right under the flightpath to the airport, he swears superfreighters used to nearly take the chimney pots off.

Re: Rail Simulator
I've got one I'd like to nominate as the nerdiest/geekiest simulator ever - and it's on topic! How about SimSig? It's a railway signal panel box simulator. If you like watching coloured lights go past you at regular intervals, you'll absolutely love the opportunity of changing them for an imaginary train driverJohn wrote:So what's the nerdiest/geekiest simulator ever? How about 'Staple simulator' for the I-phone!
Unless of course... you know better!
It's free, too  http://www.simsig.co.uk/

Free is too expensive Ian. Each download should come with a free 'Section' order.. non-negotiable

Each to his own I suppose..........
I have a friend who's so keen on steam engines, if he was run over by one he'd be chuffed to bits

Re: Rail Simulator
Oh dear, I must be a real nerd then because I have tried some of those SimSig simulations. They are quite challenging and certainly will keep you busy. But on the other hand, my interest lasted a rainly weekend or so, and I have been using Flight Simulator for over 25 years, my first being Flight Simulator II on an Apple IIe.speedbird591 wrote:I've got one I'd like to nominate as the nerdiest/geekiest simulator ever - and it's on topic! Garry - I make it a general rule not to acknowledge your humour (despite frequently stifled giggles) in case it encourages you.Garry Russell wrote:I have a friend who's so keen on steam engines, if he was run over by one he'd be chuffed to bits:doho:
But in this case ...

OK, OK, I admit it. I played it once. Or twice. Just to evaluate it for scientific purposes. It's totally mind destroying in the same way that space invaders was. It starts off slow with no trains in your area. Then one appears in a corner and you click on it to see what station and platform it's calling at next. So you set the points and signals for it and sit back. Then another appears in a different direction, then another and another and then you get a call from the driver of the first one who is waiting for a green signal because you have forgotten him. Within in an hour I had completely blocked all lines in and out of my local station with angry drivers constantly trying to call me and expresses stuck behind freights that I couldn't get into sidings etc etc etc. I was a gibbering, sweating wreck after a couple of hours. Actually, I was a gibbering, sweating wreck before I started so it may not be relevant ...
Anyway - if you value your sanity, please avoid!!!!!! (But if you're a nerdy geek you'll love it!). Just look, for heaven's sake:

Ian
