Looks much better than the dismal last year. Don't know if I'll bother going (Dave B might be lucky if it's his day off) but XH558 is apparently displaying at Cowes, IoW that day...and Benson must be bang on its flightpath back home.........When? THURS 7th AUGUST
Obviously, as the title states this is a Families Day and not an Open Day as such. However, as I know some of the membership are regular visitors and watchers of the event I thought it was a good time to post an update. For those that are not in a position to come onto the base, there are some great viewing opportunities quite close to the display axis. I am sure one of the locals can point people in the right direction!
We have had mixed fortunes this year so far but overall the day is shaping up to be a really good one.
The list below is almost complete but there still may be a couple of surprises to come! :smiliegrin
All I have to do now is put the flying programme together in some sort of order that fits in with everybody. Wish me luck as it is my first year!!
Anyway, the provisional line up is as follows
STATIC AIRCRAFT
Typhoon - will be arriving and departing on the day :;):
Hawk
Tucano
Tutor
Merlin HC3a
Puma
Griffin (TBC)
Delta Jets Jet Provost
Meteor- Martin Baker
Spitfire Mk1a- Pat Bianchi
Hurricane- Peter Vacher
Tiger Moth
Chipmunk- Ex Queens Flight
20 x vintage aircraft- various
Piper Cub
Ex Royal Navy Wessex?
FLYING DISPLAY
RAF Falcons-dropping from Chinook
Red Arrows
Chinook HC2
Hercules C130J - fly through only
Hawker Hunter- Delta Jets
Spitfire PRX1- Peter Teichman
Messerschmitt ME108- Simon O'Connell (tail chase with PR12)
Yakobats-YAK 55 aerobatics display
Silence Twister-Peter Wells
As well as this there will be various heli movements carrying out families flying during the morning by Merlin, Puma and Chinook.
Although we don't have the budget to rival some of the other events, we are pretty pleased with the line up so far for a Families Day. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
We look forward to seeing some familiar faces again this year and for those of you over on 'Spotters Corner' I may be able to arrange a 'friend' to come over for some close up shots. :smiliegrin

Cheers Chris
I loaf off for an hour or two regardless of if it's my day off (which it isn't) but like you.. wish I hadn't bothered last year  Can't say that the list of flyers has set my heart racing so let's hope none go tech!

Re: RAF Benson families day
XH558 is due (weather permitting of course) to do a flypast at Benson sometime after 17.30 (local) on Thursday on her way to Cowes, IoW. Bit late for the families day, but... I'll be home in time to see her - right over my house!!
Also the Blades are down to display.

Anyone know if young Tom Pringle is there at the moment(or perhaps somewhere hotter ;-) ), he may have some 'insider' gen on the event.

Re: RAF Benson families day
Unfortunately.. I realise I'm not going to be able to go. The good lady booked us 3 days in Axminster so I'll have to make do with another trip to Yeovilton instead ;-)
