Jet Provost VC panel lighting?

Post by gypsymoth »

I use Rick Piper's lovely Jet Provost a lot but am restricted to day time use because - I fly from the VC but it doesn't have any lighting & the instruments are difficult to see in the dark. I've searched for a light switch but can't find one. Maybe there isn't one!! Or panel lighting either? Can someone put me right, please.
Thanks,
Terry Wallis.

Hi Terry..

I rarely use the JP at night but seem to remember it should have VC lighting. What sim are you using it in??

EDIT..
Terry.. I've just had a look and the JP5 very definately has panel lighting in both 2D and VC. The panel lights switch is the furthest left on the lighting section. However, the gauges don't backlight as they do in 2D but they're not too difficult to read. Try turning the lights off in VC and you'll see just how dark it is! :o

Thank you Dave. I did check the readme before posting - I should have mentioned that & I did read that there was no panel lighting nor to the gauges but I assumed there was an update by now!! I'll check tomorrow. I've just been flying around Seattle & honing my landing skills at Sea-Tac & Renton at dawn so there was enough light to read the dials by. I love this wee aircraft :welldone:

Hi Terry..

I've just managed to hit a keystroke that has completely destroyed my first reply so this one will be less than for obvious reasons!

1) Rick only did the JP5 as an 'exercise'.. a 'diversion' from what he'd done before.
2) The chap who did tha panel, Sav Maurri, has been off our radar for years now.
3) Rick is now fully FSX so there will be no updates for any sim prior to 'X'.
4) Rick is now payware so expect all of his time to be diverted in this direction.

None of us involved at the time expected the JP5 to be the success it was mate. I believe it goes over to FSX reasonably well but in reality, don't expect any updates for the old model. I didn't read the readme.txt btw.. I checked the model I have in FS9 and reported my findings ;-)

Good morning Dave,
Thanks for you reply - I found the switch as you describe but it doesn't help as the VC is unaffected by it. It does turn the lights off in main view but not vice-versa. I've installed a brake switch by Glenn Copelend in the VC & see that that lights up. If I knew enough about all this I might have a go at getting lights in!!! I WISH :'(

Cheers,
Terry.

Hi Terry

the usual reason for there being no VC lighting is the files where not installed properly.

i make my zip files so that they are unzipped directly to the sim they are built for.

ie: when you open my zip files they have a tree structure
Aircraft
Gauges
Effects

etc etc they are ready to drop onto your FS9 folder (obviously you know how to change to simobjects/airplanes)

i would think you didn't copy over the effects folder for the JP from FS9 to FSX as i tend to have my own custom fx files

Hello Rick. Great 'plane!! I'm using fs9. I do have FSX but prefer 2004.
I 'flew' from Victoria to Sea-Tac at night & found landing difficult as I couldn't see my speed adequately in the VC, which is where I prefer to fly from. I have added a Glenn Copeland brake switch & noticed it was lit, as was the GPS screen. I was wishing for a VC cockpit light to at least see the instruments. Seeing the brake light was lit led me think about the lights.
All good wishes,
Terry.

Hi Terry..

As I mentioned above.. even with the panel light on and the VC fx light in place, the gauges don't backlight in the VC in FS9 for some reason or other.. there may have been a reason for it but I can't remember now. However.. with the VC fx light in place, you should be able to see your way around adequately enough. If making the switch makes no difference to the overall cockpit lighting.. then as Rick suggested, you don't have the fx file in the right place ;-)

Hi. No, I understand the gauges don't light up but I do have 3 effects files in my FS9 Effects folder from the zip.file but no VC lighting at all. It's as dull as dirchwater.
I'll check the model No. etc to see we're talking about the same thing, ie, JP5!

Dave. I've searched my machine & found 2 JP5s & 1 had an effects folder with 5 files which I have installed & BINGO - let there be
light :)
