Windows Search...
...Just a Heads Up...If you have recently installed from Microsoft Update, a facility called "Windows Search" and you are wondering why your computer is starting to slow down alarmingly...just UNINSTALL the diabolical thing. It is such a joy to see your machine transform back to its former sparkling self

Re: Windows Search...
And if you are terrible troubled by it, you can just set the service to disabled or manual, that'll do the trick too.
Re: Windows Search...
Just out of curiosity, is this a replacement and enhancement for Windows Indexing service? If so, does it offer any advantages?
Thanks,
Nigel

Re: Windows Search...
It seems to be based on Vista shyte! I found it lousy and have not been able to unistalll it but have used msconfig to stop it starting, the old search was far better!!

A new version of the same. Its actually part of Vista so its an update, whereas on XP I'm pretty sure it was an optional download.nigelb wrote:Just out of curiosity, is this a replacement and enhancement for Windows Indexing service? If so, does it offer any advantages?

Glad to see Tony sticking with his helpful factual coments on things again.... for a great many people Vista is very good, especially since SP1. ;-)

Re: Windows Search...
Tony, you can uninstall it completely from Control Panel and then it goes back to the old search...As you say, vastly superior. The new windows search is ok if you just want to index your normal desktop items like mail and My Docs, but if you want further indexing then the index files themselves become enormous and the whole machine slows down even when it is not indexing...I know it is complete CR*P as will anyone else who actually uninstalls it. The difference in the behaviour of you machine after getting rid of that thing is fantastic. If you want to keep it then fine...But be prepared for your machine to wilt and slowly go to SLEEP!!tonymadge wrote:It seems to be based on Vista shyte! Re: Windows Search...
Thanks all. I think I will pass on Windows Search and stick with what I have now.
