It's just a matter of making the units sold into profit and how muchh profit you want (or need) to make the subject viable. It would seem to me Alphasim are struggling to match these 2 variables with their military range.
Ahh, now there you go, what you want and what you need :), critical words in any business. Alphasim for many years 'wanted' a return, now its bigger and a going business it 'needs' to retain that income, therefore it moves from the likes of A2A, Aeroplane Heaven, Razbam to the level of Just Flight, Abacus, etc etc, that change in status also changes there modus operandi. As a business they will do what ever it takes to retain that income and being utterly blunt willnot care what anyone says or writes in any forum. Alphasim are moving from the cosy little team of hobbyware vendours serving the forum market to the hard nosed business team serving the broader masses.

To be honest there new clientel will have no clue about there past dealings or this minute area they have habitated for so long, any bad press here or elsewhere will probably not stick in there new environment, we have to accept that this little cozy world of web based clientel is prety insignificant in the bigger FS picture. Your status and standings only really matter if you wish to remain in the current environment, that applies to anyone, not just Alphasim.

Well looks like there may be a witch hunt in progress at AS. I've just been to the AS forum to find I'm plain old MickeyD. They've pinched my AS(s). They must suspect a mole and I must be a contender since I 'defected' with Team SDB to Skysim. :dunno:

I resemble that remark,. No sorry I meant, have a combat sim out, a licensed standalone simulator engine, and many projects aside from the public MSFS side of the business and we are still the small hobbyist group?

We have been stepping up the game for a long while now slowly but surely moving 'on up'.

Lewis, my understanding of A2A is that its not your main job ?, technically what I call hobbyware, that puts a different slant on many things, it reduces the pressure to publish, allows you to model what you are comfortable with and also allows you to go into greater detail.

Models built without pressure and from the heart will always be far better than those built to a timescale and at the behest of someone else, ie contracted, I have seen many contracted models and they are not a patch on a model that is home grown, however contracted models do meet deadlines and do arrive on the shelf quicker.

There are two ways to advance meagre releases but superior quality ( almost fanatical ) and superior releases with average quality, both business models are appropriate in the right circumstances, Abacus are a prime example of the latter and they do very well out of it.
