Ok so it's only the ex-Heathrow underpass model, but it'll be great to see her guarding the entrance to Brooklands museum

Re: Another Concorde nearing restoration!
Hi John..
I spent an entertaining hour with the guy who is supplying the paint for the project the week before last. Folk kept phoning him up and what they didn't know that he was on a fact finding mission (read, a wander) onboard APEP
My understanding is that the model, once painted, is going to be sited on one of two roundabouts. I'd always presumed it would be the one at the bottom of the hill but it may well be the one you have to go around to get into the museum by road (and/or Mercedes World) - at the one end of The Wellington Way. This would make sense
The story goes that Weybridge Council have made a donation toward the project though in the final analysis.. this falls some way short (or so I'm told) of the actual cost involved. Nothing new there

Re: Another Concorde nearing restoration!
Hi John
There are 2 further roundabouts at the RH end of Wellington Way.. 1 would be out of the question as far as I'm concerned but the other would be a better candidate. However, what was once the main entrance to the museum (the only entrance) is no longer that (it's the way I go in) so it is totally logical for Concorde to go on the roundabout you've highlighted. I'll ask on Wednesday but I'm pretty sure that's where it will go.
BTW.. as you go down Sopwith Drive toward yet another roundabout, have you noticed a lovely white art deco building on the RH side. That was actually the old tower from the Brooklands aerodrome and illustrates just how darned big that place used to be :o

You know I've often wondered if that's what it was, thanks for the confirmation. I used to use Wisley for a lot of filming (years after it closed) and when you include that and the sateliite factories the whole operatiom was simply enourmous. Ah those were the days :-(
Kind regards as always
John
Ps the old runway was very useful! These are a bit old now but you'll get the idea

Re: Another Concorde nearing restoration!
Hiya John
As far as I'm aware.. the tarmac area to the north of Wellington Way is all new even though it is proportional to the bit of tarmac you see to the south of the road. The bit on the southern end of the road is all that remains of the original runway (that is.. original to Vickers/BAC days) :-( If it's not.. I've been severely lead astray :o I took the ZX9 down there a couple of weeks before EP and A4O-AB moved into the museum complex and believe me.. I swear it was responsible for me later losing a couple of fillings
I dunno though. The bottom part of the northern area is too similar to the other side of the road to have been dug up so this may well be original too
