Re: Hawker Sea Hawk W.I.P
To make that more correct, the hiss and smoke time duration should be extended to about five times its present length. The initial engine startup whine should be removed and the secondary engine startup whine should immediately follow the cessation of the hiss and smoke. It's looking very promissing Steve! :flying:

I am also guessing that the wings would be lowered first (for firefighting/keeping the paint clean), or do you need a HYD pump run of the engine to lower them??

Re: Hawker Sea Hawk W.I.P
I've got a nice picture in the From the Cockpit book on the Seahawk with a trio starting up wings folded, I'm guessing to save space as they really did seem to cram aircraft on in those days. There are other pictures starting up spread, one of which is almost on the cat so it may have had a flame out taxiing and the others are shore based so not sure on the hydraulics front.
Re: Hawker Sea Hawk W.I.P
Steve, just found this awesome pic of a whole line up of them starting up, looks like you have the height of the smoke plume about right, just maybe the
color needs to be a little on the white side.
Hope it helps

A little more digging, I came up with the real deal, the HF's Sea Hawks start up smoke plume, just in case
you had not seen this before.

Re: Hawker Sea Hawk W.I.P
Cheers for all the comments chaps, but for the record, the video link Seaking sent is, as I have said before, the one I have been basing my fx on the whole time. Furthermore, I sampled the hiss from that very same video, so I am not sure about making any adjustments as per Peter's comments. The biggest issue with timing of the smoke and whine is that I don't have control of when it actually kicks in. The fx are aligned to the engine startup in the cfg, but that is all the measure of control I have; so unfortunately, the emission does not kick in until later, after some whining as you can hear. I think I am pretty on the money now with the length of hiss and plume life though.
Along that note, here is what I have found from the extensive reference material I have showing startups:
1) The plume does seem to vary in height and colouring, although it seems it had a touch of white in it at some point, which I have downplayed slightly in mine.
2) It seemed fuller/longer in some shots, but the RNHF video plume seems a lot quicker so the jury remains out on that. It is possible the cartridges they are using today are not of the same stock and that causes a difference.
Regarding wing fold operations, Skippy said it all, and I even have footage of the Red Devils display team taxying in formation for take-off and lowering the wings just prior to this point, en masse, before final run-up ( a lovely sight BTW).
So, with all that said, I think I am closing the startup smoke tweaks for now and moving on before this turns into a Gannet COD.4 blue saga (just kidding, that was well worth it!).
Beta is not far away.

I noticed that Seahawk has a GPS fitted on the Gyro Gun Sight... Looked like a ProNav, possibly after being rebadged to Garmin.Seaking wrote:A little more digging, I came up with the real deal, the HF's Sea Hawks start up smoke plume, just in case

Never let it be said that we 'rivet counters' do not worry about a 'puff of smoke' tooSo, with all that said, I think I am closing the startup smoke tweaks for now and moving on before this turns into a Gannet COD.4 blue saga (just kidding, that was well worth it!).

Steve, I for one think your doing an outstanding job. You could go on forever with this tweak and that tweak, I'm sure when it's released
everyone will really enjoy flying this bird all over the place.
Didn't know you had seen the vid before, sorry to duplicate.

Re: Hawker Sea Hawk W.I.P
No worries Seaking, and I apologise if I came off short in that last post at all. Just been a bit under the hammer with work recently. The whole thing about going the rivet-counter or just her 'er done route is always a struggle, as you want to get the details right but eventually you just want it off your hands!! I'm sure many folk on here know that feeling all to well.
Trev, Hobby has been assisting with the eye-level issue on the panel and I hope to get that revised possibly this weekend, all going to plan. Skippy has also been advising on messing with the hiss sounds to get the timing right, so I'll see about that too.
ATB to all,
Steve
