Madrid Crash Report

Post by Garry Russell »

It seems the Spanair crash at Madrid was caused by incorrected position of the wing flaps and the safety warning horn being inoperative

I'd suggest its very early days chaps. We should all wait for the results of the investigation and not part of the picture which has been gleened by the Spanish media.

Hi Gary, if you read the BBC article its not an offical anouncement, its just what the Spanish media are reporting based on what was reputed to be heard in the voice recorders. Both the investigation team and the Spanish government are not commenting at this time.

Hi Ben

On Sky and BBC.....where I heard it it was saying this came from the investigators and some other reports say that two although some say they are not confirming this as actually causing it.

A Couple of weeks back this was being talked about but then it was just hearsay and speculation

I wouldn't post on speculation

Since this broke today a lot of the reports are now playing down the officialness of it but when I first hears about it it was said to be official and I checked several sources before posting.

Even then I am only pointing to the reports and not sprculating or making any judgements of my own.

Hi Garry, I wasn't saying you were, just pointing out that even if there was a problem with the flaps there was probably more to it and that we should wait and see what all the evidence points to when its is all gathered together. No doubt the flaps played a significant part in this, but just saying we should wait and see. :)

Understood Ben.........and I didn't think you were

But I wanted to make it clear I heard this a while ago but said nothing until this so call 'official' source put out the intial 'findings'

How I read it....through the hype is that the flaps were not set...that is, the wing was not in the propper configuration

However I do not know why........that my not be as straightfowards as it might at first appear.

It's a bit like saying an engine failed causing a crash but that does not say how it failed only that it was not doing what it was supposed to be doing at the critical time.

I was reluctant top post but felt it I didn't a post would be made perhaps with a lot of specualtive comment so I just put it up
saying about the flaps without speculating as to why :)

I thought from the first post it was a result from the investigation. I retract my comment for now!
