How detailed is this ship simulator ? From what I can recall of the demo, it was more a slowly-moving-scenery sim, because steering around harbour scenery was just about all you could do. To be honest, I would have found a carpet laying simulator more interesting.

In complexity, does it really compare with a detailed flight sim ...do you plan where cargo is going to go ? Do you calculate distances and load fuel for the journey ? What about stability, reserve buoyancy, metacentric heights and all that ? Are there any engine room functions, such as raising steam in the old liners and so on ? What about weather reports, route planning to avoid bad weather, navigation, radar etc ?

I need another simulator like a toothache, but I'm curious about it.

Doesn't look like it up to FS standard

I wonder though if you set it to realistic if you would end up with barnacles on your bottom

Virtual Sailor is fairly simplistic compared to FS. In Virtual Sailor there are no real tasks to perform other than operating your boat/ship. Each boat/ship has a 'boat.cfg' file from which you can set values such as fuel, stability, area of sails, etc. It has multiplayer functionality but I've never used it. I just basically sail from point A to point B with an occasional gun/torpedo attack on unsuspecting vessels. Here are a few screenies of Virtual Sailor's more advanced features.

Brian

Adjust weather, forecasted weather, time of day, etc.

A pretty nice GPS.

Radar...which really works.

This window allows you to create/manage waypoints and move your boat/ship...amongst other things.

If you put your tiny dinghy out to sail, in the worst storm possible through the game it will never capsize. Which put me off Virtual Sailor.

Virtual Skipper 5 demo isn't too bad. Its all about tactics and beating the other sailors to the finish. Quite entertaining! Bit pricey at $44 though :o

Ummm, just getting a little bit worried here after all the suggestions of Dave being the captain and going under the title of "Racing Queens"!! :$

Ahem, does that make me the fourth in line for the plank!! :worried:
