RAF vc-10

Post by domvc10 »

Hello

Been a long time since I've looked around these pages but I have been wondering about something.
My question is what kind of Nav system are the RAF VC-10s using? Do they have a kind of fmc or are they still using the old INS system I've been searching around and can't find an answer. By looking at cockpit pictures it looks like they're using something mor modern than the old INS but I could be wrong.

Thanks

Dom

Hi

'At the next roundabout take the second exit......' ;-)
Groundcrew workload has increased 50% now they have to clean the sucker marks left on the windscreen after each trip..... :)

Bye for now

Hi Dom :)

Yup.. the RAF do use something more modern than the old INS or maybe not.. a NAVIGATOR  Seriously, I don't know the actual name of the kit they use but it's strapped into the Nav's position behind the Captain with a repeater screen on the main panel for the pilots to see. The old INS systems fitted to the civvie VC10's ended up in Victor tankers as far as I'm aware ;-) From there to the bin I guess

Dom,

The VC10 does use an FMS (operated by said navigator). Navigation wise consists of a GPS/INS (INU1), and then an older Carousel INS (INU2). These feed the nice little screen at the front, and the Nav's control units at the back. Sadly the only control the pilots have for the RDU at the front is the brightness of the screen. We even have to ask the Nav to change the scale!

Excellent thanks guys ( I knew someone would say they have a NAVIGATOR! ) I won't feel so bad now by adding the vas fmc to it. I like flying on Vatsim so being able to fly a 4 crew aircraft I need a little help.

Thanks

Thanks for the pics.

Well I decided to learn how to use the INS properly and now I'm happy to say it's a lot easier then I thought it would be! (thanks to reading a simplified tutorial) My vc-10 is back out the hangar and I'm almost comfortable enough to get it in the skies on Vatsim.

Just one last question what sort of nav system does the BAC 1-11 use? I've been searching but can't find an answer
Thanks
