Retro Manchester

Post by speedbird591 »

I'm really pleased with how my retro AI traffic is working at Hong Kong. It took a hell of a lot of time, but we got there in the end. It's perfect for flying DM's VC10s and Trident 2. Now I need somewhere to fly the 1-11s, the other Tridents and the Comet and there's only one retro airport around for that period. DM's Manchester 1975!

It's going to be a long job but I've made a start and it looks possible. I've diverted the WoAI traffic and temporarily re-arranged the parking space to make room for around 35 static aircraft so I can see what works. Once I've got the fleet on the ground, then I can start looking at flight plans. These shots give a first taster of how it might look. Obviously, there won't be so many once they all start flying and hopefully I can put in a few rarer visitors to make it more interesting.

Anyway, just thought you might like a quick glimpse although it will be a few weeks before it's running properly. The time scale is loosely 1975-1985. Going for atmosphere rather than strict accuracy :worried: It'll look more authentic when it's raining :)

Although I visited MAN frequently at that time (VC10s, 707s, freighters and positioning on 1-11s and Tridents) I have to admit that I didn't take a lot of notice of the aircraft :$ So I've got most of my ideas from Airliners.net. I'm open to suggestions as to what I should have and should not have, depending on whether they are available as AI.

Cheers

Ian

Look great Ian

Needs a couple of Merchantmen on the stand :dancer:

The early Guernsey Airlines Viscount (Alidair type) and Alidair themselves were busy at Manch.

It does look good doesn't it Garry. Agree that no visible Vanguard/Merchantman presence does detract from the overall effect though!  As your pc seems capable of handling any volume of AI.. use Rick's model along with the paints for each UK Vanguard/Merchantman.. found in the Members Forum

Very nice, Ian.
I can't see my KLM AIA DC-9 repaint anywhere

Lovely paint, Kevin - didn't realise you dabbled! Very nice - thank you for that one.

Ok - got the Dan-air 748 and there's a BA one parked over by the hangars somewhere, too. But bad news about Viscount and Merchantman paints. The only AI models I can find are the Dee Waldron ones from CalClassics but I can't find a Guernsey paint for the Viscount and there only seems to be a BEA red square for the Vanguard. Much as I would love to have a fleet of Merchantmen dotted around the airport, I don't think my little laptop would appreciate a full strength latte model sitting around  . Everything else I've got is a skinny decaff version! Hey, perhaps Kevin is in the mood for a couple of Vanguard/Viscount repaints?

Ian
It's the only one I've completed yet. I have a half done Air Spain DC-8, but the guys at RetroAI have beaten me to it. Also, a Highland Express B747, but found one on Avsim.
I'm still very slow at painting, but hopefully will release more one day.
Hope my DC-9 adds a little to your sim.

Regards

Kevin

Hi Ian :)

There are only 20 Vanguard/Merchantman paints to match the 20 aircraft. Just think how cool your AI would look with individual aircraft registrations/paints  All of my releases are 32-bit but they could be made DXT3 if you so desire ;-) The 'proper' AI Vanguard comes as BEA RS and that's your lot I'm afraid and no Merchantman :-( As it happens.. I think I have a batch of DXT3 Vanguard paints already for Rick's model but not the entire fleet. I'll see if I still have 'em :)
