Re: Tornado Close Call
I'd be surprised if it hasn't given the amount of time that has been doing the rounds on the interweb?
The consensus seems to flip between it being deliberate for a training video and it being a major cock up whenever it is brought up. Occams razor suggests it is probably be the former but I'm sure someone on here will be able to shed some more light on the subject, preferably first hand information rather than from an uncles cousins sisters mothers brothers former room-mate.
(Incidentally links to PPrune don't count, if you have to ask why then you clearly haven't grasped how that place works yet).

Re: Tornado Close Call
Curious links -- Bunch of garbage "close calls" (Seems the general public doesn't have their heads around RVSM/RNP1) with dubbed in screaming -- then a load of "9/11 was done by W" bollocks -- The Tornado video was about the most convincing in the group

Re: Tornado Close Call
Yes those so called near misses and also the 'heavy landing' frequently posted really get on my nerves
Another common one now is vapour trails shining in the just set sun being meteors crashing to Earth, not to mention the growing insistance that vapour trails are chemitrail spilling out plumes of chemicals.
You Tube shows how stupid people can be

Re: Tornado Close Call
It's not just Youtube Gary. Another forum I occasionally frequent has me tearing my hair out on occasions as they seem to think the "establishment" is out to get them. I've heard all sorts of utter nonsense on there.
Apart from the usual "world will end because of global warming" and "the government spies on us all" and "the chemtrails cause all sorts of illnesses" type of comments there are plenty more bizarre and off the wall points made. A few gems include the notion that the "hum" you sometimes hear in older houses is not in fact the wind blowing across the chimney or over doors but is instead our senses picking up on increased use of radars, mobile phones, interference from pylons and other assorted nasties. Oh, your wi-fi also causes all sorts of diseases and illnesses (apparently a wi-fi router is basically a mobile phone mast but 10x stronger). One member reported that the government made a "hack attempt" on his PC the instant he posted an anti-establishment message, to which the rest of the forum just sat back and quietly nodded in agreement. Many believe we will see power shortages and food riots in the not too distant future so are stocking up as though WWIII is coming.
These people are normal, intelligent human beings. Many have degrees and work in jobs that require a great degree of rational thought. I have to blame the internet, I think generally human beings can't cope with the amount of information they are now exposed to on a daily basis and bandwagon jumping becomes the easiest way to cope, by adopting something as a cause you eliminate the need to listen to all sides of the story, thus limiting the information that you actually need to read and digest. That's my theory anyway.

Re: Tornado Close Call
I've never been able to make my mind up on that Tornado vid. As a layman, with zero actual piloting experience, I (imagine) that the first rule of landing is seeing the runway and that it is clear (in VFR weather). The aircraft on the ground has obviously been there for a good while as it's in an apparent takeoff position, so the question is why was it's approach and lineup not seen by the incoming aircraft? There's also an odd statement about an engine being in some mode or other that meant it took ages to 'spool up' and that's why it is 'so close' - but again as a layman, I would ask 'why would any pilot in his right mind fiddle with his engines on approach - just to severely impede ability to initiate a go-around?'....
So it's either a miraculous escape (which does not explain how the approaching aircraft visually missed the A/C on deck) - or it's some sort of training - the way the approaching aircraft gets all the power it needs suddenly points to the latter.
I also think perspective has a lot to do with it - I am not totally convinced that they are quite as close as the video apparently shows.......

Re: Tornado Close Call
Yes. All this conspiracy stuff (while mildly interesting to look at now and then) is quite ludicrous. The one that gets me is the WTC demolition and the 'no other skyscraper has ever toppled like this' (conveniently neglecting to mention the actual cause!!) - and various other pointless rubbish. These people have FAR too much time on their hands.Chris H wrote:It's not just Youtube Gary. And while I'm ranting.... these 'forward on' emails of which about 99.9% are totally untrue and/or embellished (IE anglicising something that started in the US) REALLY get on my nerves and I would take great pleasure in wearing a pair of those large hands Kenny Everett used to, loading them with something heavy, and delivering a stunning blow to the originators of this garbage, which has to be almost on a par with malware and other nasties, as it serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever..... :@

HI Chris
Yes it is a very general trend now and it does seem to be getting worse
I just wish people would think a bit more instead of jumping
I just saw a vid on Live leak..very strong crosswinds very hard landings......all I saw was normal cross wind approaches and landings
Jim
Grey runway, grey Tornado he might have been hard to spot as I would think the landing aircraft would not be concentratimng on the end of the runway but the touchdown point

Re: Tornado Close Call
True enough Garry...
If you really want wound up, look at some of the 'turbulent' landings at Edinburgh. I've seen more turbulence out the dog's backside than some of those!
