From what I've read, Sentinel is capable, but I do wish that the MOD would stop using terms like 'Best of it's kind' - which doesn't really say much - the claim would be valid if the Navy converted an old washing machine as a Sonar and made the same statement!

Here's a bit of reading:

A little bit out of date but more about the one used on the Typhoon:

Been watching them on approach to Waddo but damned if I could get my camera out in time as the engines are sooooo quiet......not like the VC10 which you can here from miles away!!!

Thanks Chris, just had a read of that. The Typhoon and F-16 use it, apparently; I wonder if restricts manoeuvering while its deployed. Its reminiscent of them reeling out wireless aerials on Hampdens and Wellingtons, in a way.

I'm tempted to ask whether you ever had to nip it off in an emergency, but as this is a family website, I won't.

I am soooo out of touch with modern military aircraft and technology these days. Once the Cold War ended, and all the glamorous stuff went to the scrapyard, my interest waned I suppose. :dunno:
