Re: 748 landing lights
I'll just add in here...IIRC the 'lights on below 10,000ft' rule only applies in USA,and only when operating within a TMA airspace (10 miles from an airport)Chris Trott wrote: The "rules" for landing lights in the real world vary by airline. All that is required by most of the regulatory agencies (like the FAA and CAA) is that the aircraft simply be equipped with a working landing light if operating for hire (regardless of time of day or conditions). When that landing light is to be used is not specifically regulated,
Think you'll find its (landing light use) is set by either (as you say correctly) company ops manual, and/or the aeroplane operating (flight) manual
Whenever/wherever landing lights are fitted there is a minimum illumination requirement set by the regulatory bodies (EASA/FAA etc) here's a simple explanation from wiki ----> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_landing_lights

I just joined FSA but im not sure i understand it, i tried to start my own VA but i cant affod to buy any planes for it! ive yet to read about it but i really should have done that first before i joined! the biggest question is do you have to fly online becuase that is something i have not yet done and not sure how to do so!

Hi jayviator
Yes and No are the easy answers. You need to be online to start the flight with FSA and you need to be online when you finish the flight. All points inbetween are up to you. If you have broadband.. then it's not so much of a hassle to stay connected. If you don't.. it costs rather more and ties up a phoneline. FSA is rather 'lax' in many areas in order to make the experience as user friendly as possible.
You say you've started your own airline but don't have enough money to buy aircraft. I think that should probably read you don't have enough money to buy the aircraft you want. We all start from humble beginings ;-)

Re: 748 landing lights
Joe, I don't dispute that I don't always get everything right. However, in all cases, it wouldn't affect my pilot's license in the real world as none are "gross violations of safety of flight", something that usually is required for any license action to be taken. If you look at most of the pilots who fly on FSAirlines, you'll find that most have dings on a fairly frequent occasion. Some of these are due to previous issues with the program (for example, I got dinged twice for landing lights flying into El Alto in Chile because the system at the time didn't account for high altitude airports properly. The penalties were removed later on, but I know of many who got dinged for the same penalty as well).airboatr wrote:he may say he knows the rules but from a look at his score card he has serveral infrations in his log book

Pete - There is no "requirement" within US airspace to have the landing lights on. It is a strong suggestion, however it's in the Aeronautical Information Manual and not the Federal Aviation Regulations, so it's not "law".
Jason - The HS.748 goes for v$500,000 on FSAirlines. As a new VA, you get v$25 Million. You should be able to buy a whole fleet with that much.

whoop teedo

I guess having a 2 0r 4 yesr old child logging flights is ok too ,
I mean they have the attention span of all but 3 mins ... and the child flew these routes and landed the plane ...... :o ? wreeree?
( I ain't buying it.)
now I havn't anything against kids having fun but when there are others demanding things be done a certain way
it turns the whole thing into a joke.
I know what time it is bubba, so.... back off ..
go rule your make believe world or ........play in traffic I don't care.
(just rememeber to look both ways

I'm having more fun then ever with FS !!

Re: 748 landing lights
Just to throw in an example of varying ops procedures, Delta Airlines mandates landing lights on/off at FL180 (transition altitude for US airspace).
