THAT 1-11! There is a tale with this one... the duties of this aircraft with respect to travel from Warton to Munich, Toulouse et al were taken over by a 146 (it may still be flying but was already v elderly in 1998!). The 1-11 in the video was notoriously unreliable and was involved in an interesting incident in Egypt on its way to or back from Riyadh. Apparantly there was a need to empty the holding tanks for the bogs and the ground crew (such as they were) were not particularly well practiced on this particular type... Anyway one thing led to another with the result of a substantial sh1t shower for those unfortunate enough to be standing in the wrong place!

The 1-11 was popular among those that flew on the above routes but became a bit of a liability due to the lack of reliability resulting in one too may unplanned stopovers. The 146 was nice in that there was marginally more room (usually only carried 50+ passengers) but was a bit slow and couldn't get high enough to avoid nasty weather. Range was of course a bit limited with two refuelling stops required to and from Riyadh making it a bit of a trek. Was fortunate enough to get into the flight deck for the arrival into Cairo on the return journey - very steam driven (and that was just the crew ;-) )!

The engines on the 1-11 are nowhere near running condition I'd guess. Even though the aircraft flew in, once it was at Brooklands a lot of parts were immediately taken off again. A lot of items have been returned over the years but as far as I remember the engines that are in the airframe aren't complete.

The VC10 is a lot more complete, I think that the ignition circuits are disabled somewhere but apart from that the systems are still in place. The electrics have been modified a lot though.

All the onboard systems are indicating 'GO', we have plenty of oil and fuel so everything is looking good at the moment.
