Re: Apparently true......
I honestly don't think it's the case that so many of us want to be builders.. more that so many of us want to avoid paying the extortionate fee's builders/Sparkies et-al charge us.
I'll give you an example (and boy.. I could give you many)..
Monday evening, I noticed a patch of carpet was sitting proud by half an inch so went over to investigate. The carpet was wet and I had water (albeit a little water) coming from under a panel in the wall. Having had a similar thing happen last year.. the panel wasn't too difficult to remove (it'd been cowboy'ed on!! and not by me!) and there it was.. a different joint leaking. I called our plumber who wasn't in so tried to nip the connection up (knowing full well that water would probably pi$$ out) which it did
Next plan.. off to B&Q to get myself a shedload of half inch copper pipe and a sackfull of push and turn connectors
I've seen 'bonafide' electricians weld their drills into the wall having struck a live wire so Joe Public aren't the only dummies

( that'd be the ones that think with the other half of the brain...you know what I'm sayin here..)
YET!... keeping both hands free to work..

Re: Apparently true......
Guess I'm fortunate in that way since my father was a carpenter, so the very first job I ever had was carpenter's apprentice. I still love working with wood and power tools. Drywall I leave to professionals, as well as wiring more complex than installing a new outlet. Plumbing I don't touch, with or without a 10-foot pole - I don't like being wet!
