AI Classic Jets

Post by TSR2 »

Hi Chaps,

I'm fafing about with AI (again I hear you cry) in FSX. There seems to be a shortage of AI jets from the 70's - 80's. I have the ones from the Cal Classics pack which is a good selection of 707's, DC8's and Convairs. And I have DM's AI VC10. I was wondering if anyone knows if Mike Stones old archive is still available somewhere? What I have been doing is substituting classic aircraft for the ones in the WOAI packs. Of course having an AI model is half the battle.. it then needs to be painted lol!

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

I think I'm running most of the decent 70s/80s AI, Ben. I must have at least 80 different model/paint combinations of that period at my retro airports. The best quality AI models are the AI Aardvark ones that are included in WoAI. If you check your WoAI collection you should find a 737-200, 727-100/-200, 747-200s (with different engine and freighter variations), DC-9s and DC-10-10/30. Any you don't have you can download from the Aardvark website.
http://www.ai-aardvark.com/ But most of the links there to decent paints are dead. So you have to then search for suitable repaints on Avsim/all nodes and put them in the relevant WoAI folder.

ALL of DM's models can be converted to AI using the batch file in the model folder and I'm using Rick's Vanguard and Viscount full models as AI with no frame rate hit. Dee Waldron does quite nice Convairs, DC-8s and Tristars but the 707's not too hot.

I've had to resort to using a modified HJG 707 that Peter made available, but it does slow things down on my PC, so I've used it sparingly! Dee Waldron's models are used in the CalClassics collection but most of the paints are too early for you (60s).

Let me know if you're looking for anything in particular because I probably already have it!

And 707, DC-8, A300, etc are available here:

http://htaimodels.com/downloads/dwai/fs_projects/

They may be the models in the WOAI packs mentioned by Ian (Speedbird591).

If you'd like I could zip up a complete setup for the 70'ies for you.

Fligh plans from RetroAI, and models from various sources.

Flight.bgl's FSX-converted.

Just give me a hint.

Hi Dan that would be great ta. Also thanks to Graham for the models he sent over to me.

I just find it incredable that sites like Aardvark have the links to their repaints, but nowhere does it say how to get their models... Birraze.

As I've only stuck bits and pieces together from others work, I don't think it would be appropriate to do a general release. Sorry.
