Yes, certainly the great progress from that time has been "Flight Safety"...We were all a bit Gung-Ho in those days and imagining all sorts of war scenarios. I spent four years in that Wing of squadrons, 5, 11 and 266 and I lost count of the number of funerals attended...I do remember that 5 Squadron lost 12 in 12 months and that included the Squadron Commander who just went missing over the Channel and was never heard of again.
You must have been both a very good flyer and blessed with good fortune. Some of the stories of what happened to pilots are enough to make your hair curl... :-(

BTW Peter do you possess any nice Vampires or Venoms? I've noticed some French Simmers have made quite a nice Vampire, which includes a Paint Kit. Do you know if there is a 266 Squadron repaint?

No, I only have a blank texture beta FSDS2 Venom but I seem to remember that it needs a lot of work.

BTW there would never have been a 266 livery for a Vampire...The squadron reformed in late 1952 with Vampire 5s and then by April 1953 we were re-equipping in haste with the Venom FB1, to get ready for Operation Longtrek at the end of May...Then after we returned we operated just Venoms and the squadron livery evolved. There was a period in April and May of 1954 when we had some Vampire 5s back while our Venoms had the wings strengthened after some problems. Then the Venom FB1s were modified and back with us till we re-equipped with Venom FB4s at the end of July 1955. I only have the one colour photograph of the squadron livery:-

Those have got bang seats so I'm pretty sure they are Venom FB4s.

but the tip tank decoration can be seen in other black & white shots on my site :flying:

That's a great photograph!

And great information - the Fifties is my favourite period for Sim Flying...

I picked up a VenomFB a couple of days ago... The logos look quite similar :o
