1960's scenery

Post by paul26may »

Having downloaded and enjoyed Dave Maltby's Manchester 1975 scenery it would be nice to have this, don't you think? The photo oozes atmosphere for me.

Hi Paul..

Well.. you can have that already. Wolfang (he of much retro airport fame) advertised it here. Search any of the main sites and look for EGLL1961 and I'm sure they'll spit it out ;-) Alternatively.. type Wolfgang Gersch into the search engine

Air France Breguet 765, I recall seeing one of those giants way back at Heathrow not sure what year but it must have been near the end of its life, a real ugly brute that was made attractive by its uglyness...if you follow..

I have used Wolfgang's scenery but not being an afficionado of all matters Heathrow I am not sure whether Terminal 3 as in the photo was in existance in 1961. I really would like to have a mid to late 60's (the time I became interested in aviation) theme for FS - London, Manchester etc.

Yeh.. you're probably right there Paul. LHR in 61 was sparse to say the least but I'm sure there were still folk complaining about the noise even then!

Never ceased to amaze me that people buy a house near an airport and then beef about the noise.

To give an example, a new housing estate was built on/off Scotland Lane, Horsforth, Leeds - people moved in and then started campaigning/moaning about the noise. RAF Yeadon was there long before these herberts came along. :dunno:

It's off topic I know but yes mate.. I agree entirely. We have a bloke down in the village with a barrow load of dosh that bought a big posh house next to (it looks like one big building from the outside) our local hall. They hold plays there every few months or so and the Herbert next door immediately complained about the noise :o It beggers belief

Sri Paul.. back on track ;-)

You think that's bad. I have had people complain to me about birdsong after moving out to the country from the town. Advice given was move back to town then the traffic noise will drown it out.

Here's a few from a 1962 booklet. The first couple are T3.
