I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

BBC News website now confirms the aircraft as being registered to the company director of Sittles Farm Flying Club, near Lichfield in Staffordshire, and it is suspected that there may have been three including the pilot on board.

Very sad news made a bit more poignant for me personally as I used to live in the area and knew people who backed onto the railway line in Colwich very near the crash site. The point where the plane came down is also the location of the 1986 Colwich train crash, and I suppose we should take a crumb of comfort from the fact the aircraft managed to avoid hitting any trains on what is Europe's busiest rail line and the surrounding village. I dread to think what could have happened if the aircraft had come down at the same time as two fully laden Pendolinos had been passing or on the housing nearby.

Very sad indeed. The fatality count is now confirmed as 3.

Mark - I read your similar post at BANAD. I wasn't aware that there were other BANAD members here.

Kevin

Yes, I've been on BANAD for some time. Even though I now live on the Welsh coast BHX is still my "local" airport (well, until they re-open RAF Llanbedr!), I even have a direct train service to Birmingham International throughout the day, which is more than the people of Dudley, Brownhills or Stourbridge can say!
