Frost bite warning

Post by Captain Pugwash »

after last weeks article from peter and his trip up north and the cold. well it's come down a bit further south, we are in for a bit of a chill until friday. today at my shift start was a wonderful -23c with the added wind chill of -38c . just enough to bring on a bad case of goose bumps whilst wear your bermuda shorts and sipping the pims. like bloody hell, i was freezing my parts off. even my aerial cable decided not to play. as i unrolled it from the reel the messenger tore the outer protector off the rf cable. that was just the start. to add insult to injury a yellow peril ( i have another name for them) pinned a ticket on my truck. slot meter infraction. so the city has issued a severe weather/cold warning. anything more than 10mins outside could lead to frost bite.
sorry no picks as any thing out in the open just freezes.

I just glanced at our weather forecast here in Des Moines. Thursday's low is forecast to be -28C, and the high tomorrow isn't expected to get much above -20C. The wind chill is supposed to hover round that magical number of -40. It's really not supposed to get this cold in these parts.
When all else fails, manipulate the data.

I'm not a fan of Pravda but this makes interesting reading.
http://english.pravda.ru/science/earth/ ... _ice_age-0
"The earth is now on the brink of entering another Ice Age, according to a large and compelling body of evidence from within the field of climate science. Many sources of data which provide our knowledge base of long-term climate change indicate that the warm, twelve thousand year-long Holocene period will rather soon be coming to an end, and then the earth will return to Ice Age conditions for the next 100,000 years."

Which was the climate scare story du jour at least until the early '80s.

During my normal startup procedures for work, i tried to connect the power unit to my laptop in the truck. with the results you see in the picture. the temp that night had dipped to -30c. when i tried to plug in the cable went off like a fire cracker and the outer insulation shattered like glass. hate to think what the vehicle harness does when i drive off in the mornings.
