Axe the Beer Tax
Obviously now that the Government has finished with smoking its turned its sights to Beer. The license trade is a vital part of the UK economy and more importantly the UK commuity. I certainly feel strongly about this and if you do to please visit http://www.axethebeertax.com and Click on "lobby your MP". It takes about a minute and will automaticaly send an email to your MP looking for his / her support. The license trade cannot survive another tax hike, and coupled with our cost to produce, its making it more and more difficult for large and small brewerys alike to produce profitably. We should be incouraging people to go to their local for a pint rather than getting these cheap supermarket carryouts and drinking them at home.
Thanks for listening and hope you will find the time to give us your support.

As filthy and vile as my local is in general this is certainly a worthy cause, I've signed it for those who have pubs that aren't full of chavs and alcoholic OAP's.

Hi Guys
Bit of a Rant in this one
I am so sick of this Government.
keep seeing stuff on TV that pubs are closing
The police moaning about Drunk teenagers etc.
the 24 hour licencing and the Blanket Pub smoking ban are the main cause of both but they just don't see.
Gordon Brown...................we did not vote for you to be PM so please "Go Forth and Multiply" ASAP
Rant over
Regards
Rick

They say if you give up smoking, drinking and s£x, you don't live any longer, it just seems like it.
Well they've had a pot at smoking (no pun intended!), they're having a go at drinking (a lot of pubs have taken some big hits coz the smokers don't go anymore), so I dread to think what's next! ;-)
Seriously though, I have seen a lot of pubs in my home town of Blackpool closed down. I spoke to the landlord of one, not long before it bit the bullet, and he was firmly of the opinion that the smoking ban had killed his trade.
I am a smoker, I used to go and spend an evening in the pub with my friends, a good time had by one and all. Now, I'll go for a beer or two and then head home because there's not as many people in the pub, the atmosphere is not the same (and I don't mean smoke laden, I mean it's flat) and, in the winter, it's perishing cold outside. I'm not arguing the pro's and con's of smoking, just saying how it is.
Beer tax, it'll kill off another big chunk of an already suffering industry. But then again, society is going the way of big brother and control, folks just aren't allowed to make their own choices anymore.

Re: Axe the Beer Tax
From my own point of view the reason for so much drunken violence on the streets is all because of the increasing booze prices in pubs and clubs. People now go to the supermarkets and get totally plastered before they go out so they can have a cheap night, and while of course it's something that's always been done people are really drinking to excess before they head out for a night out rather than having a quick few before heading into town, wherever that may be. If they cut the booze prices in pubs and clubs so they could compete with supermarkets things would be far less horrendous and violent in city centres after 8pm.Rick Piper wrote:Hi Guys

I just hope that when they get around to banning breathing they give me warning well in advance - 'cos it's going to take a lot of practice.
