Re: Confessions of a Flightsimer... (Reprise)
And there's always TrackIR which makes 2D panels completely obsolete. I hardly ever use 2D any more, except to reset the HS 748 or flick that one switch that isn't modelled.
And before you say it's too expensive, have a lok at this: http://www.free-track.net/english/
I just don't enjoy flying (or driving games come to that) without my TrackIR setup any more.
Peter, I see what you mean about the panel lines. I really like the bumpmapping effects, but as you say, it can be overdone a tad.

Re: Confessions of a Flightsimer... (Reprise)
Tks for that most informative reply Dan
Fodda..
I was so completely taken with TrackIR that I gave mine away. It's all down to personal preference isn't it
While I appreciate some folks love VC's.. I wasn't very impressed about having em shoved down my throat a bit with FSX. Fortunately (for me).. 2D's are still available for those who prefer that particular view ;-)
EDIT..
Dan.. is your version different to mine?? The only reference in the 'Learning Centre' to changing eyepoint is marked *3D panel only. Having just looked again.. this is STILL the only reference I can find. Therefore.. you either accept the default or be damned.. unless of course you know different and I'm sure you do! ;-)

Re: Confessions of a Flightsimer... (Reprise)
Hi Ben
Moving the eyepoint mate.. nowt to do with zooming. You know when you're sat in a taildragger and you can't see out.. you can shift+return/shift+backspace to change the eyepoint enabling you to see out. DM has this function on all of his jets and of course, they do not work in FSX.. not so much because the code has changed but because I don't think it can be done. This means that if you get into a model and use the 2D.. you're stuck with the view out (eyepoint). While this isn't an issue on all models, it is for the ones I tend to fly so it's either a case of switch to VC (YAK!) or nip outside to see where the heck you are
I'm not being 'anti' FSX at all. I was once upon a time but I've mellowed enough to appreciate it's advances over FS9. That said.. it's like asking 'what aircraft would you rather fly in?'. I appreciate the technological advances of the modern stuff but given the option, I'd rather fly in one of these..

Point noted Peter
Those panel lines are only one pixel wide on the bump map, but I can tone down the amount of "bump"

you mean a panning down so you can see the ground?
this was associated with the seat up and down for the VC , but in panel view it would be like looking out
and some one picking up the tail so you the runway closer to the nose (right in ront of) of the runway
this is something I havn't found in fsx panel view. for FSX
the panning down. it just moves the view up and down
like fs9's vc view , raising the seat up and down.
Joe
and if this doen't make any sence ..that because it Doesn't now .does it??

Hi Joe..
I had to read it twice but yes.. that is what I mean. It's called changing the eyepoint btw not panning
Worth adding here that at least one of the 2D's in FSX is FAR superior to it's earlier versions.. which were never changed. The default Cessna for one has a really super 2D panel. It's things like this that can be appreciated. Unfortunately, I don't fly the Cessna

Ah!!!
The penny drops. Never used it mate, but I do remember DM coding a "seat up / down" function.
Ben.
