Eclipse?

Post by forthbridge »

Hi Guys

Wondering who has a long memory here..... anyway - back in either the late 70s or very early 80s, I lived in the country. One night, I was outside, and (no streetlights - a friends' dad was working on his car in a garage) - I had been 'looking on' and was just walking back to the house when for a split second it was daylight.. I was really shocked, but, literally, after one second it was pitch black again - no 'gradient' to the light - it was like a bulb going on and off...

... can anyone ID the 'event' for me?

Nah.... seriously - I've been trying to google - no luck - but - without joking - at the time I was 9 or 10 years old, and genuilnely thought it was armageddon - not surprisingly, at the time, I had no advance warning - and I genuinley canot recollect anyone talking about it, but I was walking looking at the light in the lounge window, when EVERYTHING was bathed in broad daylight. Then 'off'. It was so quick, unless you were outside, or looking at your window - I doubt it'd have been noticed? But, as I'm typing this, no joke, it happened - and this was many years before I imbibed my first alcohol so it wasn't that!!!

Nope..... it was some sort of eclipse. I just can't find the details. Just imagine dark, daylight, dark in a blink. Between 79 and summer 81...

I really cannot see an eclipse being so quick...

Also would an eclipse do the opposite and go to daylight...?

Something bright would have to pass over the planet to cause the light...?

Very strange mate...keep looking...?

Any sort of Eclipse, Solar or Lunar would take several minutes, so I reckon either a. you were very young and it seemed like a blink of an eye but was actually several minutes, b.you've reached that point were reality and the TV shows you've been watching have merged into one or c. Superman spun the world really fast at that point and although it was several minutes in reality, Superman's world spinning made it seem like the blink of an eye
