Before going down your high-and-mighty track Joe, don't just read what's in a newspaper - read the preliminary report from the NTSB. You will find that the problem was the flight department, not NASCAR as a whole. Since then, they have changed the way they do things and the persons who were responsible for the problems have left.

It would be like saying that because I got in a car accident after not taking care of my car, Chevrolet is at fault. NASCAR is a large organization with a lot of people in it. The Flight Department is one very small part of it. How were people who have no idea how aviation works supposed to know that their flight department wasn't doing things right? That's really the FAA FSDO and their assigned Inspector's job with their audits and ramp checks. How long had it been since the FAA conducted an audit? How long since a ramp check? If they weren't getting audited at least bi-annually, then the FAA failed as much as anyone else here.
