It's an alpha channel problem. I just looked at the PSD for the bottom texture I sent you, and on the alpha channel the rear section is dark grey, the main section very light grey, and the nose is white. The whole thing should be very light, as per the main section. Looks like I mixed it up with a texture from a different scheme.
Thanks both Dave's...OK so it is an alpha problem that gives Alpha a shiny bum...Hmmm I wonder if someone could explain what I do in photoshop to correct that problem...I hope it is fairly simple as I'm finding photoshop very fiddly. I will be most grateful for a step by step set of instructions
First.. don't accept the alpha channel in DXTBmp or
Second.. send the alpha to your editor then cut the odd bit off leaving the area for the jet pipe. Not knowing what the alpha looks like on that model.. I could be sending you up a dead end but that's basically what you do
Alternatively.. you could open the texture off a GOOD Hunter (your original Echo perhaps) in DXTBMP and save it's alpha channel. Then.. open the new one and add the good alpha to it.. all in DXTBMP
I use Photoshop 7, but other versions should be broardly similar.
Open the file.
My layout has several boxes on the right hand side, each with tabbed pages. The bottom one has tabs for layers, channels and paths.
Click the channels tab.
You should now see 5 channels displayed. They are combined RGB, separate red, green and blue channels and at the bottom the alpha channel. Click this one. The main window should now display a grey image. Paint out the dark section using the same colour as the middle area.
Save.
Thanks Dave...just done your second solution and I'm just going to restart FS to see how it worked
Yes Dave...Perfect...I used Export to send the good alpha from my original Echo, as a file to My Docs and then loaded the new one and Imported the alpha back in again. Great...I think I will just keep that alpha file and Import it into each aircraft as I finish it. That little application, DXTBmp handled that very nicely. Thanks again to both Daves :flying:
There are many ways to skin a cat and each of us has his/her preference. I go for 'easy' whenever possible as this makes up for my lack of talent!
If you keep this alpha safe, you can import it into each of your variants (this is exactly what I do when I make odd adjustments to particular sets) and on completion.. each of them will be exactly as you want ;-)
The squadron Hunters are all painted now except for the pilots names...I started those today and "Lima" now sports Dinga Bell's name...Derek flew for many seasons in the Red Arrows when he came home from Kenya. Here is a picture post of "Lima":-
