FPS Limiter v Alacrity PC ?

Post by Ben_Brook »

Hi

I've been running some comparisons between FPS Limiter and Alacrity PC - both of which claim improved Frame rates with FSX. I haven't found any mention of FPS Limiter on these forums, my apologies if I have missed them.
Anyway, with my standard FSX setup, moderate slider positions and real weather I was getting an average 16 fps with Mr Pipers Chipmunk.
Alacrity PC offered not much of an improvement, maybe 1 or 2 fps.
FPS Limiter was a vast improvement with 21 fps average.

I have tried this comparison a few times now and FPS Limiter comes out the winner.
Hope this might be of interest to anyone having fps problems in FSX.

Bye for now

Hi Ben..

Tks for that. Neither ring a bell with me but I'm usually stuck in FS9  Are these utilities freeware??

Hi

Heres a link to FPS Limiter, yes freeware, makes FSX a lot smoother IMHO.

No idea how it does what it does or why it's better than the FSX frame limiter but it really does make things smoother. My FSX was capped at 30 fps anyway but setting the FSX slider to unlimited and using this handy little program capped to 30 fps makes a huge difference to the general performance of the sim. More complex aircraft like the Aerosoft F-16 and Captainsim C-130 seem to benefit far more from it with noticeably less micro-stuttering.

Hi

Fps limiter appears to work for FS9 also ... my fps does not shift from 30 fps in any FS9 flight. I imagine it will work with any .exe you care to try ? .....maybe. :dunno:

Hi Tony

I rarely use FS9, we all have to have a white elephant in our lives, don't we? ;-)
As for the frame rate issue - I don't recall such good and constant fps with FS9 - is that what you mean? or am I missing something?.

Nope that fine, I have FSX gathering dust so will try the FPS stuff, fortunately even on my mediocre rig I get good results in FS9.
