Brooklands Aircraft Movement!

Post by DaveB »

Well.. part of an aircraft moving anyway  When anything moves at Brooklands, it's an event in itself (read miracle) so we were chuffed to see this old girl going to her new display position next to APIM. After the last shot was taken, much talking was done as to where to put the cranes then they all stopped for tea! I left at 15:00 and I've no doubt they're all still talking about the final move and having more tea even now  It's easy to see which side was previously visible to the public! :$

You can see the nose of APIM and in front, a red fire truck. The nose section will go in the gap there nose toward EP ;-)

OMG....that is just what an Arther Daly would have done when selling a dodgy car in days gone by....put the bad bit against the wall and show good side for viewing!!

Definately have to get down there some-time Dave when my piggy bank has enough in it.

Regards
Nigel.

Hello Mate

Well.. this is the interesting bit.. I believe she's in really good nick inside too  I enquired a while back for Fraser and the flightdeck is complete. It had been stripped for repainting but all instruments were there to be put back again. Never been inside as the team are there when I'm not and it's never been open to the public but I'm hoping this will change in the not too distant. An interesting and rare example, the flightdeck should hold some nice surprises over a standard/civvie Viscount

Hi Dave

Sounds good

Too many nose are striped aout hulks and even for external only veiwing are spoilt by bashed and windows crazed or missing.

This one even in the pics looks neat and cared for.

Certaily will be an interesting fit in that one. :o

Is that one XT575?????..........rather that XT661?

Hi Eddie

I thibk she was pretty well an airliner and did a lot of route proving.

Most of the earlt BA pics and films are of 'DG

Although never owened by BA they had an option to purchase it if ever their fleet need expanding although it would have needed a lot of work to bring it up to full production standard althoub the airframe itself as production standard.

That's about it mate. Most of the improvements made to Concorde over it's lifetime were fitted to and tested on DG. She then served as an instructional airframe at Filton before finally having nowt to do. There were early plans to have the entire collection under cover but like many such plans, it involves huge amounts of money. The Concorde team keep her in excellent condition though and she rarely has any streaks or dirt lines. You can see one of the Concorde team on the second shot to the front of the transporter and in the distance wearing 'white' overalls. The rest of the museum are a rag, tag bunch but the Concorde boys always turn out in white
