Exhibit A - looks like he only has flaps 1 set -- plus if the translation is to be believed he had an ASI failure
which makes no sense - thats why the first call out on the roll is "Airspeed Alive".

Exhibit B - Someone didnt do their WAT sums correctly did they?

China Airlines has proven itself to be a less-than-competent operator on multiple occasions Leif. I believe the ASI failure scenario and that the crew failed to recognize and/or comply with the failed ASI procedures.

The flap setting was 5, proper for the 737NG. It doesn't look like much, but it's more than sufficient. If you look at the tiny deck angle required for climb (about 3 degrees from my view) the aircraft was well above V2 when he reached the end of the runway as it should take about 5-7 degrees to unstick at VR, even when fairly lightly loaded.

There was a discrepancy between the readings on the two pilots' airspeed indicators, which led the crew to rotate right at the far end of the runway, then return for a precautionary landing.

Remember that this was less than 2 months after another China Airlines 737-800 burned to the ground on the ramp at Naha because of poor maintenance procedures failed to identify and repair a main slat track which then punched a hole in the pylon and main fuel supply line. This was even after Boeing had issued a SB that there might be problems with some of the bolts holding the slat tracks onto the slats.
