All aboard for Africa...

Post by petermcleland »

I had a communication from Peter Biddiscombe yesterday...Viewers of my pictures will possibly remember that he and I flew together in the Hunter GA9 aerobatic team in Kenya and the Arabian Peninsula. Anyway he included a rather good picture from the "Masai visit to view our Hunters at Embakazi Airport":-

Here is Peter B's explanation:-

"You will recall from your photo collection of the visit to the Squadron of the Masai Warriors and their presentation to us of the Asagai Spears and Lion Skin shield (I wonder what happened to them). During the photo call I got one 'ten foot warrior' to pose in my cockpit. It was some time later that the accompanying shot appeared in Flight magazine with the caption which went something like:- "Biddiscombe, you've got feathers in your cockpit. How do you know that? Because there's a Masai Warrior wearing them!!" (Actually they were Colobus Monkey skins)."

What a fantastic photograph. Peter! It's just so bizarre that I can't think of any comment that can do it justice! Absolutely wonderful!

Yes I agree, it is a bizarre picture and I was delighted to receive it for my collection. It was also a great surprise as I've never seen it before
