X2WX, Weston-Super-Mare scenery

Post by delticbob »

This Saturday its 5 weeks till the 2009 flightsim convention being held at "The Helicopter Museum" at Weston-Super-Mare.

There is no scenery for flightsim that covers this area, so I have created some, using the EZ Scenery libraries, the UKVFR autogen library & a couple of other bits 'n' pieces such as the Ted Andrews scenery libraries.

As this is my first substantial scenery it is far from perfect & is clearly unfinished round the edges....I stopped when I thought my frame rates were suffering, but the museum is done. Clearly the scenery is NOT photo realistic, does NOT feature static aircraft that you will see at the museum & the buildings are all the wrong shape, (bit like me  ), but it gives an impression of the museum, along with the adjoining runway....now opened for FS flights....helicpoters, small/meduim jets only, (its just over 4000ft).

I hope to upload it (with a read me that could well rival War & Peace for length  ) over this weekend so if anyone wants to have a poke about & make fun my scenery feel free 8)

But for now here are some screenshots featuring the Sikorsky S-55 (alphasim).

There is a link in my signature below to the convention website, should you feel the need to read :D

Oh, nearly forgot...this is for FS9 only :brick:

I went over Weston three weeks ago on my way back from Little Rissington in a Chippie, as the chap upfront was one of the last people to learn to fly there in the 1970s. After looking at my photos taken up and down the runway and over the Museum (at 1500' of course), this scenery looks very close to the real thing. I look forward to its release.

Best wishes,

Martin

Looks great. Is it for FS9, FSX or both?

Yep, as Dave says, it is FS9. I don't think some of the EZ libraries work too well in FSX, but if anyone wants to give it a go, & see what happens. :bandit:

I have uploaded v1 to the Avsim, Flightsim & Classic British Files websites, so it should start to appear later.

If anyone is going to download it, you should note on my machine I was getting 23 fps (pegged at 29) when I took the above pictures, though I have had a bit of feed back that someone was getting 11 fps. I know it might be a little heavy on frame rates, which is why I stopped when I did...& why it looks a liitle 'bare' round the edges, but if anyone has any useful comments I would love to hear them. There is a good knowlege base on here & any offerings that might allow me to either improve this or anything else I might do, would be most welcome.

Bob...off for a cuppa :D
