Peter..

A good point about the parking radii. I just watched my C1K land and it went to the cargo area (91.86). All of the parking positions on the Mil side are incredibly small.. too small for anything bigger than a fighter me thinks! Having checked the parking radii at BZN, they're all 144.36 but these have to accommodate Tristars too :worried:

Pretty much all incoming RAF transport aircraft being used to re-supply personel at Aldergrove used the AAC end of the SHNI pan, where there is just enough room to turn around. My first trips out were on a Belfast and VC-10 (I was spoilt there) and both used this pan. It is possible since my last tour there (25 years ago) that things have been changed!

The MU (the larger military hangars in the far corner) used to service Phantoms mainly during this time, but other fast jets would visit from time to time. I never saw any Shacks there though.

Hi all..believe me when I say this, having worked in the place for over 15 years this scenery is hauntingly good, looks like now I am really never going to leave the place

For the purists most of the larger "unscheduled" AC park at the Apron just east of the 35 threshold (DA2) including our occasional AN124 and C-5.

Its a pity that just as the scenery is released our Airbridge has been removed, to be replaced shortly with a shiny new glass one, hope it doesn't leak as much as the old one.

Any way you can all now jump into your BM DC-9 or Viscount, BA (Maersk) 1-11, BEA Trident, BA (Loganair) Shed and come over for a proper pint of the Black Stuff :drinkers:

Of course I went to Aldergrove hundreds of times operating the Vanguards and Tridents, but before that in 1957 and 1958 I flew a Meteor 7 in and out quite a few times and also an Anson 19 even more times. These flight were in connection with 275 S&R squadron with Sycamores...They had a detatchment there and I was their COM pilot after the Duncan Sandys white paper. I flew the squadron personel and spares in and out.

Needless to say, I am enjoying the scenery very much and will be looking to send a four ship low level sortie of FGA9s from Stradishall :flying:

I wondered how long it'd be before the Hunters visited! Nice idea about the Meatbox and Anson. Although we don't have a '19', I suppose DG's earlier version wouldn't be too much out of place ;-) I really need to sort out what I want to do with it AI-wise. I'm currently flying milk runs from Liverpool in the Halifax VIII.. my AI is '59 plus I have Superb and Swifture flying in from Emids with a '95 Transport Command C1K from Brize. What a mess!

There were a few civil greenhouse Ansons so a silver dope G- would do for now.

If no real suitable example was found then perhap a paint with an unused G-AG__ or G-AH__ reg would fill a gap??
Somtime other colours were used overall which could liven things up a bit.

Just a suggestion.

Great scenery as are all of Gary's UK airfields are.
My one and only flight into Aldergrove was on a Trident 3B which was a Super Shuttle flight from Heathrow, on a buisness trip.
I don't remember much about the airfield but Niel Kinnock (Labour party leader at the time) and his enterage were on board and the TV cameras were there for the arrival.

The flight was BA4552 on 13th December 1984 on Trident 3B G-AWZD. The return was on Boeing 737-200 G-BGJJ.
I wonder Peter if this one one of your many Trident flights?

John

No John...I did not fly that day but I note that on the 11th December 1984 I did a Belfast and the return to Heathrow in G-AWZR was a genuine Cat IIIb Autoland with RVRs of 150 metres at threshold and midpoint and 100 metres at the far end. I don't think Neil Kinnock would have liked that much

Then I did another Cat III from Belfast into Heathrow on the 28th December and earlier on the 16th December a flight to Glasgow ended with a Cat III at Glasgow with RVRs of 200, 200 and 150 metres...I guess it was a foggy month
