   As the Tyne is a twin spool engine, ie, the starter motor is driving the HP section and not even connected to the prop, LP section,
it would need about 50 miles of rope hooked to a high speed train to spin it up fast enough for a start.

That 10 second rule on the starter, only applies if your GPU is top line, the Tyne needs 2,000 amps continious to achieve 2500 hp rpm for a succesful COOL start, any thing less is courting disaster, at least for the turbines anyway.

I'd love to be there to watch EP's engine run,...from a safe distance...about half a mile would be good, I've had one fire during an engine run on a Vanguard and the company refused to pay the dry cleaning bills for four pairs of trousers,

Robbie.

Hi Robbie..

Yes, that's a very good point mate  Anyway pop-pickers.. I've just pulled an email from the museum director and it seems that fireman Sam was able to re-arrange a few things to muster the required number of bods so the run on Saturday is GO!!!

Right.. I'd better start brushing up on the startup routine again!

Edit..
BTW Robbie.. not only is our GPU NOT top line.. we don't have one but the 10sec rule still applies. If we left it any longer, the wiring would probably catch fire and the batteries would be dead! ;-)

Sorry to be so selfish, Nigel. I was just thinking how I wouldn't have to get up too early and could have a leisurely bacon butty on the way

I can see why the museum are so keen to go ahead. They've advertised it as part of the day's activities. Along with 'Junior Firefighting with the Brooklands Mueum Fire Service'.

Dave - better check they haven't decided to combine the two events!!!!!! You don't want fifty kids with fire extinguishers climbing all over PEP when you're trying to get her wound up ImageImageImage

Just got in from a rather soggy Brooklands and am about to start steaming. Ah.. junior firefighting. That'll be me next Wed for my annual firefighting course

All is looking good for Saturday :welldone: We have some steps to move, the engines need to be bled and topped up with oil then the prayer mats positioned to face Mecca so I'll be in early to participate in most of these evolutions and any additional ones that will undoubtedly crop up so let's hope for some half decent weather. There is no opportunity for an early run so as soon as you see the props start to turn (3 and 4).. cross your fingers, legs arms and anything else that comes to hand :worried: The crew steps will be left in place so no.2 will not be running :-( Otherwise.. we're still go for the run at 12:30 ;-)
