Good luck with the run tomorrow Dave.

Apologies Dave...I won't make it. There was always a conflict with an important function at Pangbourne for my dear wife and when the fire cover raised its head I gave it away...I wasn't really able to take it back again
I will look forward to any video of the event

Re: Dare I mention another engine run date for EP??
Hi Peter..
Well.. I'm 3 miles further up the road from Pangbourne on the A329 but that's where the pub is, not where Superb is
Lee, my old chef popped up for the run as did the ever young Speedbird591 and it was nice to see you both again ;-)
A great run by all accounts lasting some 20mins
No.4 took 17ltrs of oil and no.3 15ltrs.. we still had low oil pressure indications off both (no.3 flickering on and off) but pressure and temp readings on the flightdeck were ok. It's possible that no.4 was slightly off the detent which would account for the fwd propwash reported and the higher fuelburn but otherwise, they both started and ran very sweet ;-) The extended run gave the generator on no.4 time to warm up so 15-20mins into the run, we were self sufficient on electrical supply
Start egt's were excellent (760 and 750 respectively). A very pleasing result ;-)
There was some comment that it would have been nice to run no.2 as well and if no one throws their dummy out between now and the next run.. the next may well have 3 engines turning. ;-) Good news for the few spectators we had.. I had a word with the director prior to the run brief about the noise made by the Meteor fire tender (I said that all movie film available is ruined by the Meteor!) and bless him.. he had the fire crew turn the Meteor off for the run. All that could be heard was the sweet sound of RR Tynes
I didn't take any footage on the flightdeck this time but hopefully, someone will have done the business outside and will upload it soon.
Big smiles all round from a very happy bunny

Pleased to hear that everything went smoothly Dave, wish I could have come down but had to see to a prior arrangement early in the morning then popped down to the Cockpit fest at Newark afterwards, apart from that I did not finish work until 03.00hrs and had to get up at 8.15 this morning so feeling dogged tired at the mo!!
hope Ian behaved himself!!

Mmmm - I was feeling quite mellow today and didn't feel like being rude to anyone! What a perfect day! Beautiful weather, no crowds and some fantastic machines. PEP performed flawlessly - those volunteers should be feeling very proud of themselves. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I only had my Canon Ixus, but I took a hand-held video of the full start sequence and it came out remarkably well. I'm uploading it now but it'll probably take an hour or so. Meanwhile here are a few stills of the occasion. Starring the one and only wotsisname!
I've included one of the Napier Railton which also had an engine run. I've always thought that this is perhaps THE most beautiful machine in the world. But to see it outside and then be next to it for the engine run - oh, speechless! I'll post a short video of that too. It's aero associated as it has a Napier Lion 12 cylinder, 24 litre aero engine (Supermarine S5 Schneider Trophy winner) and has a max speed of 168mph. I wish my Dad could have been there - he would have seen it at Brooklands when it was new!

I'll post the video as soon as it's uploaded.

Hi Ian
I'm really glad you enjoyed yourself ;-) I've sent an email to Allan Winn (the director) thanking him for 'suggesting' to the fire crew that the Meteor be shutdown for the run!
Looking forward to seeing the video
That Napier is a peach isn't it. My daughter (when she was but a mere pup) had difficulty getting her head around the size of it's engine! 'You know that our car is a 2ltr.. yes daddy.. well this one is 12 times larger! GULP!'
They keep it in mint condition don't they. No sign of any dirt anywhere.. which is more than can be said for my bike at the moment
Nice shots by the way.. even if they're a little tarnished by that bloke in green ovies looking like he knows what he's doing

Re: Dare I mention another engine run date for EP??
I'm pretty sure that must have been the bloke in charge, Dave. The others would listen to him but then take no notice of what he said...that bloke in green ovies looking like he knows what he's doing
OK. Videos. I'd intended to post the original AVI files but they were too big and I got bored. So I put the bits together with Windows Movie Maker and ended up with wmvs instead. So they open in Windows Media Player. Remember - it's only a hand-held Canon Ixus compact so don't expect anything fancy - like zooming!
Here's the PEP Engine Run. Can't show you the airborne shots as the CAA are investigating ;-)
Here's the Napier Railton run. (Love that car!)
Ian
