Cough! Cough! A serious enquiry
Perhaps not the best topic for a forum concerned with aviation.
This is not a poll but a serious enquiry.
Since last Autumn a considerable number of my friends and neighbours living or working on the eastern borders of Hertfordshire have been troubled with a persistent cough which also causes chest infections and severe breathing difficulties for some people.
I have been virtually confined to the house for the past 12 weeks and have had courses of antibiotics and steroids combined with an X-ray and an Echocardiagram. There is no firm diagonosis yet!!!
One of the characteristics of this infection is that the whole thing seems to clear up and three of four weeks later returns with the same intensity. Obviously, dependant upon one's age, the whole rigmarole is more or less exhausting. I have never been affected so severely for such a long period.
One of our friends, still coughing, decided to go to Cornwall for a break, on her return she told us that the Cornish are coughing as well! Another friend visited us yesterday from a town 5 miles away and told us that many of his colleagues and friends living in that town have been affected by this coughing problem. So it appears not to be a problem confined to my village.
Have any of our forum members in the UK suffered with this infection?
Should anyone be kind enough to answer there would be no need to go into personal details about the symptons, the object of my enquiry is to find out whether this infection is localised to the home counties or is widespread throughout the UK.
Many thanks for taking a gander at this topic.

Re: Cough! Cough! A serious enquiry
Hi fella....In london we have the usual things i go to on a regular basis.....Chest infections , Asthma and fevers and COPD COAD airways diseases.
But this is unusual..? Do you live near a factory pumping out any smoke or other waste...?
Have you been checked for Asthma..?
Have you been given inhalers...? I know i shouldn't be asking these questions but as a Paramedic i am curious...pm me if you want to keep this under your hat..?
Coughing..? No is the answer....not here anyway...?
Tony

There are plenty of whingers down here in Wiltshire, but I haven't come across a coughing epidemic. Looks like it might just be Hertfordshire and Cornwall ...

Well, that's good news, I would not wish this on anyone so I am pleased to see the 'all clear here' reports. Please join in if you come across this coughing syndrome.
By the bye - I stopped smoking my pipe 19 years ago - cost £22.00 and done by an acupuncturist who I am sure has lengthened my life and to whom I shall always be indebted.
