Well I've just made mine EX-DIR...But the nagging feeling persists and I just wonder if it is all a fake. There are some very clever fake websites around these days and I get a little uneasy that I might find that I am "SUBSCRIBING" rather than "UNSUBSCRIBING" which as you know is what happens when you click on the "Click Here to Un-subscribe" on many of these Phishing emails...You are then just placing your email address ON a list.

I just wonder if we are all placing our mobile phone numbers on some list

It puts you on a list of numbers that UK businesses are not allowed to cold call and it really works. If one ever gets through (very very rarely) you just ask where they got your number as you are registered with the TPS and they hang up very quickly! it doesn't work with overseas callers so you still have access to free holidays!

While you're at it, get rid of junk mail in the same way with the sister service, MPS - mail preference service.

Ian,

Yes, I did both of those a year or so ago and can confirm that it works extremely well :flying:

If you're worried Nigel.. then don't leave the house  While I personally cannot guarantee what IS and what ISN'T fake or otherwise, one would hope that if this were a scam, Aunty Beeb wouldn't be endorsing it. Jim Cooper posted yesterday that he made his mobile ex-dir then went looking for it online and it couldn't be found. His wifes, which he hadn't at that time registered, could which would indicate to me that something has worked. Perhaps when the system goes live next week, all of those who've registered will be spammed black and blue and all those who haven't will be left alone.
It's like putting yourself on one of those links shown by Ian above. Are you opening yourself up to more abuse or does the system actually work. The mail and landline registrations seem to work as confirmed by both Ian and the somewhat sceptical Peter so I see no reason to believe the mobile registration will be any different. Incidentally, I'm on neither the landline or spam mail registrations. My private phoneline never gets hit.. once, perhaps twice EVER but on the pub line.. we get pleading calls from various charities and window salesmen on a weekly basis. My private phoneline is ex-dir btw. I'd love to make the pub line ex-dir too but it wouldn't be condusive to good business practice

I spent a good deal of time yesterday dealing with the phones of friends who don't have computers, so if this is a set up, my circle of friends will have dwindled and I won't get as many Christmas cards
