Re: Forty Years Ago
I remember the moon landing weekend so well.We were returning home to Nottigham in our old Austin A35 from a holiday in Torbay I decided to detour via Fairford on the offchance of seeing Concorde 02(I think) flying. As it was a Saturday,I thought it was wishful thinking. But no,luck was with me and indeed it did fly with a chase plane alongside.I seem to recall it was a Canberra. On arriving home I decided to stay up all night to watch the landing.Considering that I had been married for just over a year at the time, the decision not to go to bed must have weighed on my mind, but common sense prevailed and the moon landing won.Hope no-one has nodded off reading this.EricT

Re: Forty Years Ago
I was tweleve and I remember looking up at the Moon and wondering why I couldn't see the dot of the Command Module orbiting
I went to bed as normal and when Mum came in to wake me up for school she told me they had landed.

I remember staying up to watch the first steps, which took place around four in the morning UK time. I was 12 too, and knew it was possibly the biggest event in human history that might ever take place in my lifetime. Even though the video was a bit indistinct and grainy, it was live, and I was sharing the moment. What pioneering days they were; just awe inspiring.

Re: Forty Years Ago
The ghostly grainy pics and the poor venetian blind Pacific live pics all watched on a 405 line monocrome TV made the moment.
Things now are too clean and the just like next door look of everything robs the magic.
I sat there speechless
and awe inspired
