Hi Ben..

Please forgive my thickness here but does that mean I have to buy the codecs?? I click on the exe that extracted with the install and it says send CD to this number (whatever it is) then you'll receive a valid code to use the codecs  TBH.. I'm more than a little miffed that neither Real Player or QuickTime will play the track as they're both supposed to (and do) play mp4 tracks  QT shoves out an error (8971) and RP doesn't do anything.

Think I'll leave it ;-)

Sorry mate... wrong link. That was for the update only... this is the one for the full version. http://codecguide.com/download_k-lite_c ... k_mega.htm

Basicly if you try to run the update without the full version they are saying send us some money and we'll cut you a CD. The downloads are free from the link above and I'll update the other link.

That's odd!! I went to try the link to play the Bristol Freighter here at home and it wants me to download the file whereas when I was at work it played directly from the link!! :dunno:

Careful Dave, I downloaded the above link from Ben and on the install it wanted to install a whokle load of extra stuff apart from the kitchen sink.

I know Nigel.. I've already been down that road. The install didn't work so the lot has gone to the bin. I feel like a bag of sh1t today and really can't be arsed to fart around like this. It might be the best bit of aviation footage in the history of moving pictures but I don't care.

Tks for the link anyway Ben. The kitchen sink that Nigel talked about wasn't codecs.. it's the barrage of additional things the install routine asks if you'd like and when that's done, regardless of if you've said F**k off to the lot.. another screen opens asking you one more time. It is at this point that the install hung and it's fate was sealed. I don't think I've ever seen that amount of advertising linked to any download

Dave, I just downloaded and did not get any of the additional nonsense you listed such as Yahoo tool bar, etc. I downloaded the 32 bit version. I wonder if there are different install version on different mirrors - only explanation I can think of and no, I don't recall which mirror I used but I think it was one in the US.

P.S.
Check http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

There are several versions of the K-Lite pack. I downloaded the "Full" version, not the "Mega" version that replaces Real Player with Real Player Alternative (asks you to uninstall Real Player) I wonder if there are differences in the various packs. If so, you may want to try the 'Basic' , 'Standard' or 'Full' versions. My download was from the Major Geeks mirror at http://www.majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Codec_ ... d4844.html

No worries Ben. There IS a 14 to that list.. spent 1hr35m doing a virus check on 'C' drive ;-)

Nigel.. I don't know where it came from mate.. I just hit the download button and let the system choose which ftp to use. The version downloaded was a /uk.exe that's all I know. The lot, including the download files have been into the recycle bin and deleted from there. I don't care to see or hear anything of this lot ever again  I never got to see the Freighter footage but rest assured, I take all your words for it that it was good ;-)

An afternoon wasted when I should have been taking a Freighter (oh, the irony) from Soton to GUE.. had FSA not been down. I think I'll stick to watching the tv as pc's are really starting to pi$$ me off
