Sound Problems

Post by GaryJ »

Hi Guys, I bought a new pc two weeks ago, it's not some mega machine but it's got plenty of power, memory, and all the rest of the bla bla!
All the latest drivers etc are installed and it runs wonderful.... Except when it comes to FS9. It runs as smooth as silk graphically yet when i throttle up or down all the engine sounds pop, bang and crackle like a bowl of rice crispies. Jet or Prop are all the same. Every other piece of software has no sound problems at all...just FS:brick:
Have any of you had similar and is there a known fix? (apart from a big hammer)

Cheers

Gary

You might want to run "dxdiag" to see if sound is set up ok. You can run diagnostics on sound from there. Also:

Taken from FS2004.com a long time ago "FS9 Tips and Tricks"

"Q) HOW CAN I STOP SOUND STUTTERS IN FS2004

A) CLICK ON START AND THEN RUN. TYPE IN "DXDIAG". LOOK FOR THE SOUND PAGE, THEN NOTE POSITION OF SLIDER FOR SOUND ACCELERATION. MOVE IT FROM HIGH TO BASIC."

Is it a creative labs sound card? If so I seem to remember some of those giving all sorts of problems in FS9

Yes.. the old Creative Audigy

Most sound issues in FS9 (for those that have one) can be solved by moving the quality slider down from hard right to medium. I'm damned if I can tell the difference ;-)

I've had an Audigy (version 1, mind you) in my FS9 PC for ever and never had any problems even after several re-installs.

Sound acceleration over to hard right. Only for some obscure game on my wife's PC did I ever have to change that.

It's certainly odd Ian. I couldn't begin to imagine just how many of those chipsets Creative produced or why so many seemed to cause problems in Flightsim. The irony of it was that a fair few users had problems with DM's soundsets and he actually produced the soundsets using an Audigy card! :dunno: There must still be thousands of the things in everyday use.. many of which will have worked faultlessly from day one :)
